Theres a serious lack of variety in G8M characters so I was wondering if anybody knew of some teen looking characters (early or later teens), or at least ones that aren't buff with beards.

Brothers Bundle has three different ages, you can use Growing Up or on any figure you want, along with Boys, Young Boys or Teen Boys, or M3D's Teen 8 HD shapes. There's also Lucas and Landon and their add-on characters.

I profusely cheat. Most of my teen boy characters are actually G8F teens with some transgender morphs. It occasionally means some issues with getting clothes sorted, but the upshot is that G8F expressions are often softer and more suited for young faces.
Here are some I think might work?

Hope you find what you are looking for!
I think this product might have gotten glossed over a bit in Gordig's generally informative posting, so another mention might be worthwhile:
... you can use Growing Up or on any figure you want...
So you can really increase your character count. It works quite well on the wardrobe too.
In addition to Growing Up, the Lithe morph (from Genesis 8 Male Body Morphs) is useful for making the boys less buff.
I'm still defaulting to G2M for a lot of my teenage guys, as that was the last time DAZ made a real attempt to support young males. Conversely, of course, there's been a massive profusion of young teen-ish looking G8F characters and now G8.1F characters, even though the majority of them aren't being specifically labled that way.
As G8M can use G3M skin as is, this one brings back (embarrasing) memories;

There are some useful teen characters in https://www.daz3d.com/east-asian-men-for-genesis-8-male
With Growing Up morphs and other dial-spinning it's not hard to come up with teen boy characters. The hard part is finding skin that doesn't have burned-in beard stubble and chest hair if you try to use male skin, or a no-makeup option that really looks like plain skin if you try to use female skin. I've found that it's best to use skin from younger girl characters as their no-makeup options really look like thay are without makeup.
I've recently been experimenting with gender-swapping younger female characters to give them brothers. My first successful attempt was with https://www.daz3d.com/molly-hd-for-genesis-8-female The tricky part with gender-swapping younger female characters is that the software expects them to have adult-sized breasts; the smaller breasts of a younger teen produced a male version with concave breasts! The solution was to dial out Molly's youth morphs before the gender-swap, and dial in the corresponding youth morphs on the male figure produced. Molly's brother came out great. I've been experimenting with dialing-in negative youth morphs on girl characters that don't use the Growing Up youth morphs, but I haven't perfected that yet.
