I want to do weight map on certain area / selection.

After I've selected certain area/faces, how to add more?
I've tried SHIFT+ LMB, CTRL + LMB, ALT+LMB
none seems to work. It always start new selection.

So how?

With geometry tool <Ctrl> LMB adds selected polygons, and <Alt> LMB subtracts.

Should be valid for all selection modes. If that doesn't work seems something is off.

Are you talking surface groups or weightmapping groups? Weightmapping groups are created by the skeleton(bones) and relate to the rigging heirarchy. It's my understanding that they can only be created by creating bones but maybe something has changed in the last few years that I don't know about?

If you mean surfaces you can change those using the geometry editor.

    It's the surfaces.

It turns out there's a conflict with the shortcut. I have fixed it now
