What are the non-plugin options for creating mesh type hair on DAZ Studio? What applications are needed for such an endeavor? I don't want to rely on third party plug-ins anymore. I am looking for something that will allow some ease in creating and exporting out to an object file. I have become pretty good at messing with objects in DAZ Studio and Carrara.

Two pop to mind...Zbrush and it's fibermesh hair and Blender (but converting Blender's hair tends to be messy...and really high poly).

One thing to keep in mind (excluding Blender of course) is most hair solutions are pretty pricey compared to the Daz offerings. The real power of the Daz Compatible Apps was price. A lot of people like them, but I could understand a desire for something else. However it will come at a cost typically.

there is the Poser hair converter

Have you ever had decent results from that?

It does work, but either the hairs I've tried weren't all that great to begin with or I'm doing something wrong, because I've never gotten anything that passes for hair out of it (tinsel, straw...mop...yeah; hair...no).

I understand the price comparison. The thing is the Garibaldi Hair System's creator doesn't seem like he's going to be around much, I am the owner of several dead plugins, I don't need another one, and LAMH is a nightmare to use and in the past few days I have been trying to get some support from the creators and I have been met with silence, both here and at the beta forum. There really isn't any one left at the beta forum. I was at least looking forward to testing a new beta player that might not crash as often.

The LAMH issue has been going on for years now. I have never been able to use this without a crash in a matter of minutes. I use the player for products I have purchased that contain the hair.

At this point if I can learn from a reliable product to create and use my own then I will look into it.

I can completely understand your stance... I haven't used the Daz Hair solutions since they first came out for my own reasons. And unrelated to that I have some other plugins that never got proper support.
