Question about Ajax Outfit

The advertisement photo for "Ajax Outfit for Genesis 8.1 Males" [ https://www.daz3d.com/ajax-outfit-for-genesis-81-males ] shows the head piece to appear to be glowing instead of being a solid object. How is that done?

  • Probably a non-black emissive colour adn Bloom on in Render Settings, I would think

I think the person who did the promo just added a emission setting to the surface of the headdress and a little bloom to the render.

How do you add a bloom to one part of a render? When I try to add a bloom, the entire image comes out a blur

Photoshop bloom effect could make that look postwork as well.

I normally cheat; in the image above, I used my recent purchase of https://www.daz3d.com/surge-necromancer-props-and-poses-for-genesis-8-and-81 and its render settings for mild bloom. In general, the rule is bright emmision and low bloom, only a glow around the glowing thing, dim emmision and high bloom, everything glows.  If you are getting everything to bloom, the settings are way too high.

Unfortunately there's no one size fits all when it comes to bloom, as it depends on the brightness of your scene lighting, including HDRI (if used).

This blog post does a great job of explaining the effect and shows a useful reference image for the different settings: https://renderguide.com/daz3d-glow-and-glare-effects-in-daz-studio/
