Just purchased the Retro Apartment. Went straight into my cart.
Retro Apartment | Daz 3D
So I googled a little bit and found THIS:
Revisiting the 60s Décor Style » Rhodium Floors
(scroll down)
So this apartment is actually a recreation of a real existing interior design apartment of the 60s
Such a great product, love it

It is so groovy, the living end! Thanks for making a thread so I didn't have to. The detail and thought in the props! I see a balcony a la Archer in the pose set, but I can't get a good look at it from the promos.

Do I need another apartment, that is the question.

    It has a coatrack?

It's also mandatorily missing the toiletseat, but Petipet managed to do that in a discreet manner.

Does the apartment actually have a bathroom and bedroom? I can't really tell from the promos images.

There's a door off the main entrance/vestibule where one would go, but that seems to be it.

"And, if you're looking for additions to the space, don't forget Retro Apartment Props 1 and Retro Apartment Props 2 to complement your scenes."

But of course Daz releases the apartment, Props 1... and a pose pack instead of Props 2.

So... Next week for Props 2?

I do like the props, they look very well made, and I can never have too many of those ...

It is Don Drapers apartment from Mad Men. He would be proud ;)

Daz Original? Daz Plus? Very cool retro look? Amazing props sold for even less than the apartment itself?

I know what I'm putting in the cart next month!

Regarding Easter eggs, Collective 3D's Long Island Mansion is of course a stand-in for the Amityville Horror house. It took me a long time to notice that this promo pic is an exact reproduction of an infamous (and very fake) 'ghost photo' taken in the actual house in the 1970s (scroll down a bit, you'll see it).

(edit: aw heck, the links are wonky. Here, I'll just post the screenshots...)

  • Off in a different direction than the (moot here) question of if the toilet lid can open and close...  can the burners on that stove top be turned off?  They all seem to be brightly on in every picture they're in.  :D

Oh well, bought the whole set of related products, anyway.  If the stove can't be turned off, I'll find a way to hide the burners or something.  >>giggles<<

...maybe the building it's in doesn't have central heating and it's the only way to keep the place warm in winter.

I have had to do that because loss of heat during winter wasn't a priority to my landlord. Then I bought two propane space heaters.

I expect the flames are their own surface group, so easy to hide via opacity if nothing else.

The "burners" on the stovetop appear to be electric, the glowing-red set-of-circles type of cook surface.

edit: The stovetop rezzes with the "burners" turned off, and they're turned on via a materials preset, but it turns ALL the burners on.  Doesn't look like there's a way to set them individually.

Like some others of Petipet's DAZ+ products, there some shortcuts used to achieve an result that can be sold for such a low price. Using only a single texture for all four burners is one of them. Doesn't make the product any worse, but to get the 100% out of it's possibilities, one has to do some adapting.

In this case, I plan to use the geometry editor to give each burner it's own surface, so I can apply the appropriate texture to each of them individually. Will take about 10 minutes to do. Considering the price of the product, it's worth the effort.

On the other hand, the knobs on the stove top apparently can be turned, which is a nice touch.

Still, it if took you 10 minutes to set the burners to seperate surfaces... you'd figure the merchant could have done that even quicker, since it would have been way easier for him to add them while creating the object in whatever 3D-editor he made them in, possibly mere seconds for each exta surface... say, if the burners had been created as a separate object in the 3D editor (in order to more easily twirl a rod-shape into a spiral, say), then merged into the main object, he could presumably have simply elected to keep them as seperate surfaces as he merged that part into the whole object.

On the other hand, it might depend on what 3D-editor/creation program the merchant was using, some of them may not MAKE it that trivially easy to tell it "keep this as a seperate surface when merged onto that."  0o

(edit: fixed some typos and stuff)

But yeah, as budget a price as we got this for, it's not that much to complain about.

I bought the poses--mainly for the poses in which Michael's holding his hat. However, I can't get the hat to stay with him. It flies off to one side, to his right or behind him. How do you get the hat into his hand? I've tried parenting to his right hand, parenting it to his hip, and unparenting it totally. I've tried hitting the pose for the hat first, then the pose for Michael second; I've tried hitting the pose button for Michael first and then the pose for the hat second; I've tried hitting the center icon for each individually. Nothing works. I suspect it has to do with it being a smart prop, but I haven't the faintest idea how to go about changing that so that it moves freely. Any ideas?
