How do you render with Lupe?

Seriously. She renders DARK. If I use incredibly unnatural BLUE light she's ok.. I guess. That won't work with anything else though.

I have not purchased her yet, but check the bump, specular, and transparency maps, there may be differnt levels to darken or lighten the textures. Looking over her page, it does say there are multiple material options.
Which version of DAZ Studio are you using, 4,2, or an earlier one?
4.20(.0.17) rather than 4.2
Rays have nothing to bounce on but the Genesis. Are you at least using some primitive emissive objects (which I'd strongly advise you to do on any exterior scene without geometry for rays to bounce on).
If you're using only a dome, then try to change the hdr loaded in environment. Or try some bundles that give nice results in 2 cliks. I have a personal preference for "SASE Promo Lights plus Extras" that usually gives very nice natural hdri lighting for quick exterior renders.
I don't have that bundle and none of my colleagues either so I can't test it sorry.
Seriously. 4.20.17. This is an aweful character. It is impossible to work with. There are no texture options.
Rays do not need to bounce of anything for a test render. You do not need a complex scene to test render a character at all. Straight sun tells you a lot about how the skin will behave in a real scene, including SSS. (It does show Iray faults with seams which some texture sets will exhibit [i.e. Artephius Magnus]. I tend to ignore those issues.)
I always test render anything new with default sunshine. It tells me a lot about how the skin will behave, and how I can (or in this case.. cannot in any way) use it in a scene.
I picked up 2 other characters yesterday.. one older one.. it had pasty skin.. kinda common with some older models, nothing I can't readily deal with. Then another from another site... And dang it looks good.
I guess this is just a bad buy.
And how about increasing diffuse strenght to your girl's face in the surface tab, and decreasing blue and green colors?
None of that is in the shader at all.
I could tweak the shader for hours but... broken out of the box kinda defeats the purpose.
I'm just waiting for a refund now.
I think Lupe renders ok. Lighting is EVERYTHING though!
Well, here's the option without Diffuse Strength. Decrease the Translucency Weight to a minimum and again reduce the blue and green in the Base Color parameter. And possible to increase the Diffuse Weight closer to maximum.
Gogger... how? Like seriously... What lighting rig with unnatural settings did you use to cause that to function?
If I stick her in a typical fantasy scene with yellow candle\fire light, well, you can confirm she simply won't play well with the scene.
I have a couple of go-to light sets that never let me down, even with a wide variety of characters and skin colors etc. This first one has some AWESOME tools to help you get it right and understand the scene:
BOSS Pro Light Set for Portraits & Promos
and in particular the Rembrandt scene here:
Render Studio 2.0 - Production Scenes
but for the example Lupe image posted above, I used Dimension Theory's
iRadiance - Light Probe HDR Lighting for Iray (You may need to rotate the dome until the light is how you want it, super easy though.)
Full Disclosure, I did pop in the standard scene lighting from UltraScenery, a basic sunny day light setup, and was unable to get a decent render without additional lights. You can also play with the Environment Intensity in the Render Settings tab. Sometimes a little boost helps, other times it wrecks it. <shrug>
I hope this helps you. I haven't had a chance to do any other tests yet, but wanted to show that she can, in fact, be rendered.
P.S. I did NOT change any of her materials settings(!)
