About the problem that the coordinate of the object changes by grouping/ungrouping

Hi,

I'm having trouble with the phenomenon that the position of an object shifts when I put an object into an existing group or take it out of a group.
Do you have any solution?

I made a video.

  • I believe that when you add an object to a group/parent the parameters change to then be relevant to the group/parent. This is actually a good thing as it means you can parent a table to a rug (for instance) and then zero the parameters to ensure it sits directly on top of it and other things like that. When you unparent (or remove from the group) the object's parameters should return to being relevant to the world origin. It seems that the object is being phsically moved when unparented from the group which I guess would be considered a bug.

  • Go to scene tab, right click on scene label, tick "Parent item in place" :)

Parent In Place on (in the menu, as above, or checked at the bottom of the Change Parent dialogue) leaves the item where it is in world-space, adjusting the coordinates so that they give the correct offset from the new parent. Parent in Place off snaps the child to the parent's centre point, changing both position and orientation. These are the intended behaviours.

  • A group is not simply required for each object, but a parent-child relationship is established.
    I didn't quite understand that.
    thank you for the advice.

  • A group is a particular kind of node that can be used for organising elements in the scene. Free objects (things that are not part of a hierarchy, the way bones are) can be parented to anything - e.g. I often parent lights to the camera so I can consistently light soemthing as I adjust the view.
