Problem upgrading from D|S 4.6 to 4.8

I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere but few hours of searching and I can't seem to find the answer

Background: I've been using v4.6. I do not use the Install manger. I download, unzip and install all my content manually since that option was available. I also do not use smart content. I had in 4.6 a fairly detailed content category system. My working system is to download my purchase, unzip and add to my computer content file in the appropriate spot(s) then open D|S and do a scan for new files. These files would show as unseen (blue highlited) as Default / Unassigned / whatever. I would then manually move them to the categories that I wanted them in (ie Lights in my Lights category, a Gen 2 dress in the Gen 2 /clothing/ fantasy category).

I hope that makes sense.

When I installed the 4.8 upgrade, all of my categories are gone. I do a content search and it all comes up as Default/unassigned and highlighted as unseen. The many hours of carefull organiztion I have put into categorizing seems to have poofed. If I run a database migration then it will migrate my D|S 3 content with the categories I had up until the switch over to D|S 4, but nothing newer.

I tried uninstalling 4.8 and reinstalling 4.6 but the categories were still gone when I opened 4.6 after a reinstall and a reboot.

At that point I actually went back and did a system restore and I did get my 4.6 back whole and unchanged.

I tried again to upgrade to 4.8 and on the advise of a FB group member did a re-import metadata - didn't work and then a reset database and that didn't work.

Am I stuck having to recategorize my files or is there some obscure file I need to copy and paste to have it all appear in 4.8?

Thanks

Did you export the user database BEFORE you upgraded?

And if you are using Categories, you are using the CMS system...so you may need to run the Valentina to PostGre converter.

Did you choose the export User Data on the older system? if not reimport Metadata will read only the default categories. Did you run the Valentina to PostgreSQL Conversion tool? If not your categories won't have been converted - if you did and it didn't help that means, most probably, that your Valentina database was already becoming corrupt and you'd have been likely to lose your customisation soon anyway. Try saving user data from the Content DB Maintenance dialogue in the restored system with working categories, install 4.8, try the conversion tool, and if that fails reimport metadata including your user data.

    Thanks

I had not known about the export user data, something I will keep up with from now on. When I updated to 4.8 I had to re import metadata but everything is there.
