To render a truly sharp image in Iray (HDRI lighting).
What are the buttons to press?
Also, anybody seen an antilaliasing settting recently.
Renders are for large prints (16X20) and above

I'm not sure what it's worth but I have found that the sharpness of the render depends on the lights used. Low res HDRIs and stage lights leave a slightly fuzzy image (which can be sharpened in photoshop) but using high-res HRDIs (like Aversis skydomes: http://www.aversis.be/hdri/hdri-collection-skydomes.htm) produce sharp, photo-real images. Also, if you want more vascularity, select the character, go into: Parameters/mesh resolution/render subD level and select 2 or 3.
I just did a forum search for "Iray sharpness" and found this old thread. Can anyone add to this so far brief discussion? I've been using 3DL for close to 6 years but now for the first time seriously experimenting with Iray I'm finding my self-morphed characters in particular - though also tree leaves - looking slightly fuzzy while the same ones I've used in 3DL renders are pristine in comparison. In contrast I'm finding architecture in Iray sets much sharper than in my 3DL renders - I also love the lighting which has more of an atmosphere - but so far the finer the detail the more fuzzy it renders in Iray. Re my latest experiment, the first render took 7 hours and 22 minutes at the default render quality setting of 1, but as the fuzziness was disappointing I upped the quality to 1.2 and that render took 9 hours 50 minutes; and then I upped the quality to 1.5 for an 11 hour 17 minutes render - each time the render went to 100% - but compared at 100% and higher scales I can't see any difference at all between the three!
I know little about IRay, but could it simply be a pixel filter width/type thing?
Try what I use in all my Iray renders Render settings > Filtering > Pixel Filter > Mitchell with a Pixel Filter Radius of 1.00
Thanks Szark! Will give it a go. I used PhotoShop for sharpening and my images have printed excellently, but I'd rather get a sharp image straight off.
