How do we get a Sky and a Ground for our scene?

Hi everyone, it's me again! XD

I'm currently working on my very first scene on Daz Studio and for that scene I got myself a rooftop building and a background landscape that I thought was coming with the sky and the water from the main picture on the store, but it doesn't. Now I've been looking for an hour everywhere on the store to find skies and grounds and I can't find anything else than clouds. Like if they assume we all already own skies somehow. I'm kinda confused and I'd really appreciate some help if you guys know where I could find both sky and ground for a scene.smiley Here a screenshot of how my scene looks right now and the second picture is how I was expecting it to look like :

Any of these that say theya re HDRIs will give an environment map that can be set visible (Draw Dome on in Render settings' Editor tab) - the size of the HDRI and the camera focal length (controlling how wide it is) will affect how good the image looks - a narrow focus (high focal length) or low resolution image will be blurrier than a wide field of view or large image.

  • The Sky & Water is done with an HDRI (also known is Image Based Lighting or IBL for short)

Have a look at Poly Haven for some free HDRI's to get you started

  • Thank you so much for your answers, that was very helpful! laugh

Now I played a little in the studio and I accidentally made some weird white square appear on my screen that just won't disappear anymore even if I close and re-open DazStudio. Do you guys know how I can get rid of that "1.5 :1" square by any chance? ^^'

Clixck on the little Hamburger Icon to the right of the Perspective View Drop Down and remove the checkmark from Show Aspect Frame

  • The square may be useful, however, as it shows you what will be included in the render with the current settings.

  • Omg thank you!! XD And I'm taking good notes of what that square is used for :)
You guys are very nice to take some of your time to answer questions like these! smiley

I hope you have a lovely sunday!

I find that like Show FloorShow Aspect Frame can get in the way of what you want to see more clearly.  As Richard stated, seeing the aspect frame can be useful.  Rather than turn off the aspect frame, I prefer to set it to Active Viewport via the Render Settings tab until I want to see a different aspect frame.  Like so many options, there may be more than one way to proceed and no one way is right or wrong for everyone.

not quite all of them... the search engine looks for the word "skies" in the entire listing page rather than just the page title.
So airplanes that have a description that says "take to the skies" will be included.

Your basic needs are filled by sets entiled "skies of... " look closely but that should be a safe assumption
as opposed to sets that name a specific place  like HDRIs of this type or of this place.

  • I'm stuck with another problem now.. I managed to remove the frame yet when I try and see a render preview, It's just like the frame was still there... ^^' Help? (I used to be able to see the full screen in render preview before, not just a small annoying wide screen)

Under the Render Settings - General set the "Dimension Preset" to Active Viewport as @jjoyner said above

  • that viewport is in iray preview? .... when you render you have two choices a new window or direct to file.
So it looks like the active frame area is in iray preview? Because that's the viewport not a render window.

the image attached is a "render" which is done in a new window
