File locations?
I am about to the point of pulling my hair out.
So I invested into a new puter. Sadly is comes with win11.
I installed the new DS, went through, connected the tower to the net, started installs from my available downloads.
It all seems to go smoothly. Made sure to make it so available offline.
But the thumbnails are there, but clicking says "the (insert particular file) is not located"
I go into the settings, I check the paths. To find, its in a folder for one drive?
I then go to the thumb nail, right click, look at the path. Its NOT on the one drive folder. So I try to set that in the content path.
No go. Now nothing has a thumb nail, still nothing able to load and I have now been trying to fix this for about three hours.
Please, in simplest terms, how do I fix this? I went to the "install content" and it shows it is installed just...I cant use it. It wont load. It says it is not available.
Help?

At a guess, you used the default install locations in Documents and Windows mapped that to a Onedrive folder (I think Windows 11 does that by default).
Honnestly the easiest way to fix that IMO would be to uninstall your content and reinstall it in a different location outside Documents. There are most certainly ways to turn off the Onedrive sync, but there's no guarantee Windows won't turn it on again at some point with an OS update, so staying outside the Documents folder should be safer IMO...
Do you have other drives in your system?
If you install your content on C-drive, you are bound to run out of space sooner or later, so it would be better to have an other drive for the content (4TB external USB drives are good and cheap)
Another thing is - You do not need to log in to DAZ Studio, and if you install your content with DAZ Central or Daz Install Manager (DIM), you are saving yourself from lot of potential problems if you do not log in to DAZ Studio.
That is what I used. The DIM....because it allowed me to go through my entire downloads and install what I wanted. But it all went to the one drive folder. So now(since writing the original post) I have gone in, made it so one drive does not back anything up. Deleted the folder in my one drive.
Uninstalled all the stuff via the DIM.
I have been waiting to find out from this forum how to get this bugger to work.
I Have no other drive. Just my C drive.
(I Utterly hate win11)
But I tried to install and...NO go again.
What SHOULD the path be?
I know on my old puter, it was c drive, application data...yadda yadda...
Then I would suggest you create a new folder, and install there, e.g. Daz.
But as other has mentioned, the recommendation is to get a new drive you can use for your content so it doesn#t fill up your C drive.
http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/file_io/install_manager_config_import/start
This sample script will make sure that Daz Studio is looking in the location to which DIM installed - just download it using the link above the code, then drag it into the DS Viewport to run it. The only thing you need to double-check is that you don't end up with one content directory nested isnide another, which can confuse the process of generating relative paths in saved files and lead to trouble opening them in future.
The ONLY program on this puter is DazStudio. I literally have installed nothing else on it. The puter was purchase specifically with running my 3d progs.
I made sure it has a huge drive on it.
The only issue is this frustrating one drive issue. Though I think I may have sorted that by unsyncing the puter.
I am going to completely uinstall DS and try fresh and clean ...again
RightO. I will try that. I have poked around, unsynced this puter from my onedrive. I have now removed that from the preference. I am now going to uninstall completely and reinstall.
Having a huge drive (how much is "huge"?) helps, but even when ignoring the space issues, the drive where the OS is installed is the most vulnerable drive to file system corruption due to the constant activity by the OS.
Tried it, and it still is not loading the file. I have gone to the folder, it is there. I added it manually and it worked. Double clicking the icon though, nope.
Computer is a month old.
C drive is 2tb,
The ONLY program (that didnt come installed) is DazStudio
Literally, and I mean this, the ONLY thing being ran on this puter is DS.
I can load now some of the gensis8 female things. But all the items I have downloaded via the DIM is...not working. I tried the script still a no go. It say the Michael 8 was there, I double click, a box pops up, said the DUF is not there. I right click the thumb nail, do to folder. ITS THERE.
I have ran the script now twice...and stilll No go.
Are you still logging in to DS? If you are, DS is calling home on it's own, "updating" metadata on the products you have bought and judging by the amount of posts and problems, new users are easily tricked into installing the products the second time within DS => The DIM installation do not matter or work, as any installation done within DS overrides all the other installation methods, even when the installations done within DS are corrupted (happens quite often) and don't work.
Set your startup options as in the attachment, and if you have installed anything within DS, uninstall them all within DS.
DS eats 2 terabytes as an appetizer
Ok so I am on another round of complete uninstall EVERYTHING associated with DAZ and starting fresh...AGAIN...
I am going to try your post(or this new tower may become a new planter)
Also, I know 2tb is a snack. I have my old tower will all my old poser stuff and daz stuff and Ihave more than one external for it. That is just for the "gallery finished" folder of the folders with the finished jpg, the files for opening it in which ever 3d prog was used to create it etc. I have a external coming that is 5tb.
But for now, as a fresh new start(if it ever works) 2TB will do the job spiify for now.
Finger crossed...Starting fresh AGAIN.....
EDIT: my main goal is to not be constantly connected to the net on the new tower. It is suppose to be dedicated purely for graphic work. I was told that DS can work offline.
YOU DID IT! going in and changing those wee settings did it! THANK YOU SO MUCH
