CUDA Error 702 - OptixPipeline - CUDA error string: the launch timed out and was terminated

I just recently upgraded from a RTX 3080 to a 3090ti in the hopes that the 24GB vram will be more useful to me than the 10GB on the 3080.

But I am now not able to render any scenes since the upgrade - I can no longer install the 3080 to go back.

I did a lot of googling and many pages landed here and the key points were:

- PSU issue - I have a 1600W Titanium PSU

- Drivers >> I have reinstalled drivers using DDU many times

- Windows reinstall >> I cannot try this just for this issue, and many claimed it did not help

- Replace the GPU >> only found 1 thread where the poster said this resolved the issue.

Has there been any update on this? I am still within the return window so I ordered a replacement which will not arrive for a week so I have time to check if this is All 3090 series cards or just that 1 specific faulty card perchance.

Log file attached as I could not find others with the same error log

OPTX:RENDER ::   1.34  OPTX   rend error: Error synching on OptixPipeline event (CUDA error string: the launch timed out and was terminated, CUDA error code: 702)

  1. I start the render
  2. it passes the first stand and starts canvas timer
  3. I see it crash later, no real pattern of how long it takes
  4. Logs show the same error.

It would be more helpful if you attached a log with the starting of DS and everything after it, there's lot of helpful information that you left out.

  • Does
    Error synching on OptixPipeline event

    mean anything?

laugh I am trying to reproduce the issue today but am not getting it in a smaller scene anymore like I was when I was having it before this post.

I think it may be a VRAM related issue but then why does it continue with the render. it makes it a bit in and stops, compared to when its a real "Out of space" issue, I have seen those in the log before.
