Daz Standards Setters and Published Artists: A Respectful Request - MAT Zones

Request: please have separate material zones (surfaces) for clothing trim, hems, collars, cuffs, and similar, even if the default for the item is to have a single painted map.

-----------------------

Yes, I can use the geometry editor.  But there is a concept called Least Cost Avoider.  In many different kinds of situations, it is often a good idea for the person who can avoid a problem at least cost to be responsible for avoiding the problem.  Clothing creators are modeling, editing models, UVMapping, sometimes retopology - doing all sorts of things to the geometry of the models.  It is not a lot to ask to create a material zone for collars, etc while you have the modeling software open.

With American football season upon us, I bought the Big Game outfit for G8M during the sale.  Yo, people, it is a uniform.  Uniforms often have at least two colors.  Two teams competing often means four total colors in an image. You have to expect me to want to substitute my own team colors on surfaces for personal use, which Daz might be hesitant to do because of teams' rights.  Why is the entire jersey a single mat zone?

I don't mean to pick on this product.  I am making a more general point.  It is just that this product is of immediate interest because this weekend is opening weekend for the NFL.

  • it is also very handy for dforce if you don't need to simulate the whole garment

one surface = guaranteed explosion if animated

I was about to post on the very same subject. I am working on a scene using a room in which the walls, doors, doorframes, etc. are all the same material zone so if I apply one of my favourite wallpaper shaders I get doors covered in a wallpaper pattern. I seem to remember that creating material zones in DAZ Studio for amateurs like me is a complicated affair and isn't it difficult to save them? I dunno - I just remember trying it once and deciding I'd leave it to the PAs.

In a related issue - that same room with the lack of material zones also had the problem where it was all scaled wrong so the doors were like 12 ft high and the included furniture was likewise outsized. This is not uncommon and I wonder whether anyone, before releasing to the store, actually puts a G8 into one of these environments to check the scaling?
