Geometry Editor Removing Polygons I Didn't Select

I'm trying to remove the two sets of straps that cross over the feet on the shoes in this outfit:

So that all I'm left with is the a single top ankle strap and the two toe straps, but the editor keeps removing polygons I haven't selected.

Here are two screenshots of what's happening.  Figure 1 is the polygons I've selected as a test.  Figure 2 is the polgyons the editor keeps removing.

Ideas?

Haven't got that outfit, but I remember something like that with Dain's Mercenary Outfit Vest. We wanted to get rid of the blood-stained happy face on the front, but the polygon selection was all wrong unless you changed the subdivision level to zero (probably not ideal), or changed the subdivision algorithm to Loop or Catmull-Clark (Legacy). Might not be the case here, but worth a try...

Must be a mistake in the polygon grouping in Surfaces or such. You can try selecting those different groups in the Tools section of DS and see if it's getting highlighted in the same mistaken way as what you see is getting deleted.

Always turn off SubD before you delete polys, you can turn it on again after.

I usually hide the polygons first to make sure its the right ones that's going to be removed, and then I use "delete hidden polygons".

    Problem solved.  Thanks.
