Bone Minion problems for anyone else?

When it was reduced I bought the Bone Minion bundle but whichever way I try to install it (via Daz Update or Manual install) the only Bone minion that I get is Bone minion Genesis. Even the Gen 3, Gen 8 or Gen 4 files when you extract them only have this Bone Minion in the scripts folder. Is this a file mistake? and if so why havent the proper files been uploaded yet

Im prepared for it being me making a mistake somehow but I ve downloaded the 4 files on several seperate days now and they are all identical

There are several bone minion bundles. Probably, you bought the G1 bundle that allows to to convert G1 poses to other generations. Hence the file for, say, G3 will create a bone minon that can be attached to a G3 char to transfert it G1 poses. If you want to transfert poses for other generations, you have to purchase the corresponding bone minion. For instance, if you want to transfert V4 poses to G8F, you can either buy the V4 bone minion for genesis 8, or the V4 bone minion bundle that allows to transfert V4 poses to either G1, G2, G3 or G8 char.

This is a bit confusing and many people woud prefer to have a bundle based on the target generation instead of the source one.

Depends on what product you have bought. There are a variety of products, distingusehd between source and target. If you have e.g. with that bundle https://www.daz3d.com/bone-minion-for-genesis-8-and-81-poses-bundle, G8 and G8.1 are the source for the poses. Any product within the bundle defines the target. I.e. for every generation (V4 to G8) you have one product. That is the reason why you have one minion. It is for the source you have decided to buy. In the above case, source is G8 and G8.1

If you need to apply e.g G3 poses, you have to check https://www.daz3d.com/bone-minion-for-genesis-3-poses-bundle, which comes with the G3 "source" Bone Minion. For more questions, please check the "Daz PA Commercial Products" setion of this forum. The PA is very helpful and tries to answer questions asap.

  • ok I didnt caveat emptor enough on this - though I find it hard to believe there is much of an audience willing to pay for poses to convert to genesis. I ll have to see if I can get a refund as thisparticular bundle  is very little use

  • Well I swapped over to the Gen 8 and 8.1 bundle but converting generation 4 poses have had zero success  so far.

Arms stay more or less in line (not bending as per pose), and though knees will bend hips dont seem to bend at all and this is with vanilla 8 and  8.1. I ve searched the forums for anything Bone Minion related - only this discussion comes up. Is this meant to work with a particular version of Daz? so far I am resisting 4.20 and am on 4.15 at the moment. If anyone has got this working pointers on what to try to get something vaguely useful out of this it would be great.

Make sure you have run the "Turn Limits Off" script first. If you post your question in the official Bone Minion 8/8.1 tread ( https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/586556/released-bone-minion-for-genesis-8-and-8-1-poses-commercial#latest), you will get support from @RiversoftArt himself.

I'm also using 4.15 ,and I have all the Bone minions ,which figure are you using? which figure poses do you want to use? what I do is chose my figure say Genesis 8 Female ,dress it put hair on etc, etc. ,then decided what poses I want ,once I've picked the poses ,I make sure to click on the figure I'm using ,then click on the Bone Minion for the poses, lets just say V4 ,I turn off limits , then I click on the Bone Minion in the scene tab , then click on any pose  of V4 . Of course it goes alot faster then typing it out ....... any way what I like is it is not a "Converter" which means I don't have to have a ton of duplicate pose files for each generation . So if you want your primary figure to use the Generation4 poses, V4 M4 you need to get the Generation 4 Bone Minion ,for which ever figure you prefer using ,G3 or G8.......

It is all about adding the Bone Minion for the generation poses you want to convert FROM to the figure type you want to apply the poses TO.  If you have bought the bundle (such as Bone Minion for Generation 4 Poses Bundle), then it can convert M4/V4 poses to any of the figure generations from V4/M4 to G8.1.  So the procedure is:

    1. Select your figure (e.g., Genesis 8 Female)
    2. Apply the Turn off limits script to turn off limits for the figure
    3. Add the V4/M4 Bone Minion (i.e., you want to apply V4/M4 poses to the Genesis 8 Female) If you want to apply Genesis poses, you need to have bought the Bone Minion for Genesis Poses and add the Genesis Bone Minion, etc.
    4. Select the Bone Minion
    5. Apply Poses
    6. Optional: for partial poses, you will need to execute the Apply Changes script
    7. Iterate on Step 5 and 6 as much as you want

I don't want to intrude.  I lnow you're probably busy, but have similar FAQ.

Bone minion for G3 poses to G8 in DS4.20....

My eyes aren't what they used to be.  Can't find specific product in store.  One product or G3 to G8 'on the fly' is only in the bundle?

    thanks

Bone minion for G3 poses to G8 will convert G3 poses to G8/8.1 characters ONLY.  If you buy the Bone Minion for G3 Poses Bundle, it INCLUDES the Bone minion for G3 poses to G8  but also can support applying G3 poses to V4/M4, Genesis, and G2 characters.

    @RiverSoftArt

Works with M4/V4 through G2.  Nice to know.  Still use them on occasion.  Thanks for taking time to question that's probably been asked in 12 pages at your commerical release page.  : 0 !  You're very patient.  ; )

    @carrie58

Thank you for the shortcut.  Fortunate to be inspired to do two different projects so quite a bit of time researching props.  Made getting desired Bone Minion verion quite easy.  yes

  • Hi. I tried an experiment. I used Bone Minyon V4 for G3F to convert a 30-frame V4 "Walk-Turn-Left" animation to G3F, by converting every 5 frames. That was 7 poses total. I saved and applied them to a new G3F in a new timeline, & they worked perfectly.

Later I reloaded the new G3F poses onto a new 30-Frame timeline, hoping to convert each of them to G8F, using the Bone Minion for G3 for G8, 8.1.

That did not work at all. Each G8F pose was distorted with arms bent inwards, etc.

I repeated the whole process a couple of times on clean, all new setups, and it was always the same.

So is it not possible to convert a Bone Minion convertion twice upwards in generations? Does a convertion have errors, secret coding;-) ... something in it which works fine on the first convertion, but inhibits Bone Minion's ability to convert up again to the next generation level?

Thanks! I don't see anything I did differently between the two generation convertions. Any ideas about what's wrong, what to look for? This was an experiment for fun, but now it's turned into a 'challenge' I can't just walk away from.

  • It worked fine for me (just tested).  No secret sauce.  Are you turning off the limits on the G8 before applying poses?

  • posting here as will be seen

I have the Genesis 9 Bone Minion for V4 and M4 poses

I assume it doesn't do hands, at least I haven't been able to transfer hand poses static or animated

Have you executed the Apply Changes script after applying the hand pose to the Bone Minion?  A pose will not automatically transfer unless the hip bone changes.

yes but I may try adding some hip bone movement to see if that helps enlightened

That is not needed.  BTW, I just verified again that I can transfer a V4 hand pose to G9.

I, for one am very grateful for All of the various Bone Minion Bundles.

I still use my Generation 4 figures, and Genesis 1 through 8.1

My first Bone Minion product was Genesis 3 poses for Genesis 9, when Genesis 9 came out. I love it! It does a really good job!

But as it turns out, I cannot really use Genesis 9 yet.

So I started my main characters as Genesis 8 figures and bought the Bone Minions Bundles (already sold on how well the system works) for getting all of my various motion captures transeferred to Genesis 8 - and I'm Loving the experience!

I have a bit of a write up on how I use them Here in my aniMate 2 - Fun Things you may not have Known thread in the Daz Studio Discussion forum.

Yes sir, I turned off limits each time as per the instructions.
But I've been thinking, I did this on an old machine I built in 2012, with DS4.15 now installed, and it may have its own problems.

I should try the same procedure on my newly-built machine and see what happens. It's sort of 'on the shelf' due to a cooling problem and I'm waiting for a chance to add more fans.

I'll try again there without rendering. It shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for responding! It was a frustrating situation and I just wanted to confirm that what I was trying to do was possible. You have confirmed it for me. Really appreciate your work all together, and this one product right now is proving to be a huge timesaver in filtering down my loads of poses and anims. I just need to stop 'experimenting' and get back to work:-)
    Cheers,
    Ken

I thought it carried all of my hand animations through....

Also, if we want to bring more 'special' types of motions through - those created using pose control and/or shape dials and such, the "Heavyweight" Bone Minion does it beautifully! An example being the jiggle I apply using real physics via VWD V2 along with all of my control dial adjustment tweaks all come through.

    My workflow for that:

    1. I already had the animation completed for a different generation of figure - complete with jiggle and correction dials.
    2. Open that scene > Go to aniMate > Create aniBlock from Studio's Timeline > Check the "Morphs" box in the popup dialog > Accept
    3. Open a new scene > Load in my new target character
    4. Go to Scripts > Riversoft Art > Bone Minion > Apply the Heavyweight Bone Minion
    5. Go to Scripts > Riversoft Art > Bone Minion > Turn Off Limits (Very Handy and Fast Script!!!)
    6. Make sure I'm on frame 0
    7. Select the Bone Minion > Properties Pane > Bone Minion > Automatic Pose Transfer = Off (default is On)
    8. Automatic Pose Transfer is animatable, so always make sure you're on frame zero when turning this On or Off!!!
    9. With Bone Minion Selected, Apply the aniBlock I just created
    10. Go back to Frame 0 and head to Daz Studio timeline, set to "Play All Frames"
    11. On Frame 0, turn Automatic Pose Transfer back On
    12. Scrub forward one frame. then back to zero
    13. Hit the play button and let the magic begin!
    14. When done, hit rewind to go back to frame 0
    15. Turn Automatic Pose Transfer Off
    16. In Scene Pane, Select the figure (not Bone Minion)
    17. Go to aniMate > Right-click an empty part of aniMate > Create aniBlock from Studio Keyframes
    18. Play the animation
    19. Right-click the new aniBlock > Save as New > give the new aniBlock a home in your library

I love how it's all set up. Genesis 3 Poses Bone Minion will give us a Genesis 3 Bone Minion in the Scripts > Riversoft Art > Bone Minion folder.

If we own the Genesis 3 Pose Bone Minion for our selected character, it applies and works perfectly.

Basically what I'm saying is that the folder doesn't get filled with a whole pile of files like: G3F Pose for G8M sort of thing, we just get a single Genesis 3 Female Bone Minion and a single Genesis 3 Male Bone Minion. It's very slick.

I use these Bone Minions all the time and they work very well.

Hmnpf. In watching this through again, I was reminded of another product: Pose Details that might just come in handy for my workflow as well. I'll have to check it out!

Riversoft Art - you might want to talk to marketing. I entered "Pose Details" into the store search and your product or even your name wasn't showing at all. I'd have them fix that were I you!

@Wendy heart, Try this before running Bone Minion: 3D Universe's Daz Studio Animation Tools Set 1 includes a tool called Body2Hip

Select the figure, apply the script. Done. Use Bone Minion as usual ;)

  • DartanbeckDartanbeck Posts: 21,570

Okay, so I haven't tried it yet, but remember him saying something about it. Just wondering...

He says that, having the Generation 4 Bone Minion, we can do cross-gender poses between M4 and V4, or V4 and M4. Is that really the case?

    I'll find out soon enough.

  • DartanbeckDartanbeck Posts: 21,570

    Riversoft Art:

"My eventual goal is that you'll be able to use Any pose with Any figure"

Great job of making that goal a reality, my friend! Thank You So Much for These!!!

  • I finally got the hand poses to work from my animation applying changes for every single keyframe

I think being only hands is the issue

  • DartanbeckDartanbeck Posts: 21,570

I'd go back to the figure I made them for, add them to the animation I wanted them on, and save that. Then use Bone Minion to do the transfer.

No matter what the underlying animation is, once it's on Genesis 9, you can get rid of everything but the hands and save it so you can apply those hands to anything you want to.

That's why I'm always making Partials for the figure generation I'm working on - so I have them when I need them.

well I sort of do the same, I have partial face and hand animations I reuse

yes separating on G9 would need to be the go to by looks

I am a bit less fond of dial up ones than you, I like everything keyframed

  • DartanbeckDartanbeck Posts: 21,570

That's fine. But by first applying the hand poses to an animation long enough in time (on the timeline) to hold them all the way through, you can then simply Bone Minion through to Genesis 9 automatically instead of one frame at a time - because they'd be attached to a Hip-driven animation.

Once transferred to Genesis 9, Bake to Timeline, copy all keys for both hands, reset figure pose, paste, create aniBlock, done. Genesis 9 Hand Pose animation complete! ;)

Trust me. This is how I work all day.
