Animal-Roh

Is this a creature Animal-Roh, of total fantasy - or a knock off from some sci-fi show I missed?

There's so much media I have not seen, I can not say with any certainty, but I'm personally reminded of the works by Wayne Barlowe, a conceptual illustrator of "speculative life".

Petipet draws inspiration from a lot of sources. I don't think this is from one of Barlowe's designs, but I could be wrong.

I know that in the past they've been inspired by some Eastern European or Russian graphic novels or film, so it could come from something less familiar to Western audiences.

It could be partly inspired by a creature called the Houndeye from the Half Life videogame. The houndeye also has three legs and no head, although it has a single back leg, whereas this one has a single forelimb.

  • It does bear some resemblance to that Houndeye, going by the concept drawings, explains the back legs which otherwise look like they're on backwards.

Barlow's drawings, well, they sure are imaginative.

Oh cool. Ya. When I saw this Roh animal I immediately thought of the "Expidition" movie about the planet "Darwin IV". And so by clicking your link I see that those Darwin IV creatures were Barlowe's.

Honestly, the first thing I thought was that it had its head up its... rear end.
