Save As\Character Preset...how do I save hair and wardobe?

In Daz Studio 4.8+ (64 bit) I have been able to successfully "File\Save As\Character Preset", save the character preset, and then use the preset to import the character into new scenes. However, the character imports without hair or wardrobe (in this case boots). How do I succsesfully save a charcter preset so that the entire character, hair/wardrobe and all, imports?

There is a 'Fiery Genesis' Character Preset that imports into a scene in full wardrobe with hair. I am looking to duplicate the result of using that preset to import Fiery Genesis (character not scene) into a new scene. As a temporary workaround, after the first Save As Character Preset, I hoped to be able to add hair/clothing by Save As: "Wearables Preset" and "Properties Preset". My thought was that I could import the wearable/hair separately. Properties Preset didn't yield results I wanted and after doing a "Wearable Preset" I could not find the preset after a thorough search the the Contents tab/folders.

Thank you, in advance, for your help. Please accept my apologies if this has already been addressed in the forum. I haven't been able to succesfully search the forum to find the results. I found results doing a Google search but those results led to non-existant pages as the forum format has changed.

Not sure if there's a better way, but you can simply use File > "Save As" > "Scene subset".

Thank you. I tried Save As > Scene Subset. It appears as though it saved my figure with the things (hair, boots, backpack) included. Now I have a problem similar to the one when I did "Save As > Wearables"

Even though I save the file in the default location that Daz Studio opens I cannot find the scene subset I saved via:

    • Search on the ContentLibrary tab
    • Manually going through the "Daz Studio Formats", "Poser Formats", "Other Import Formats", "Products" and "Categories" tabs.

Google Searches for working/importing "Scene Subset" eather lead to Daz3D help pages that describe Save As, aka export, options for Scene Subset but nothing about using/importing scene subsets. Forum links in the search leads to page not found (due to link mismatches from upgrade) or other sites with unhelpful information. Any ideas on how I can find the scene subset?

I do see the scene subset when I save a new scene subset. So I do know the "Save As > Scene Subset" is working.

Still also welcoming suggestions for exporting the character per my first request. We could all use this info.

    Hi Leslie,

"Scene subset" is the best option if you want to save a figure with all it's clothing, hair and gear attached. Saving as "Wearable", only the clothing, hair, gear, etc. will be saved.

Normally, you'll find your "Scene subset"s within the "Content Library" under: "DAZ Studio Formats" > "Content Library" > "Scene subsets". If you haven't assigned a category to it, you'll find them in the "Smart Content" Tab under: "Unassigned" > "Set" also.

"Wearable"s are normally saved within the Content Library under: "DAZ Studio Formats" > "Content Library" > "Presets" > "Wearables". They will only appear in the "Smart Content" Tab (under: "Unassigned" > "Preset" > "Wearables") when a source figure they're saved from (Genesis/Victoria 5/etc.,  Genesis 2 Base Female/Victoria 6/etc.) is in the scene and selected.

When you save your subsets/wearables, make sure they're saved within DAZ Studio's Content Library folder structure or else Studio won't be able to find them. Happened to me a while ago that I accidentally saved a subset outside the Content Library. Found it month later when doing a cleanup. I attached some pictures to help locate the things, hope it'll help.

    Happy rendering smiley

  • Thank you Arnold, I was able to find the scene subset and successfully import the character into a new scene. I don't know how I missed the "Content Library" > "Scene subsets" to begin with. Whatever the case, your post helped me find it.

Thank you Scriesch, your suggestion to "Save As > Scene Subset" was a helpful suggestion.

If this were a tech support ticket we'd mark this thread as: Issue Resolved!

I'll experiment soon and see if I save the "Scene Subset" in a different folder (characters, people?) if the character will show up in the Smart Content, etc., alonside other "Characters" or "People" etc.

    Your're welcome. smiley

You can move your things (.duf files) around in your "Content Libray" by rightklicking on it, select either "copy" or "cut", select another library category and, by rightklicking on that, choose "paste". From now on it's residing there... and if you chose "copy", it's also in the library category you originally saved it to, too.

To make it show up in your "Smart Content" as well, you'll have to categorize it first, or else it will still be listed under the "Unassigned" category there:

rightklick on the icon in either the "Smart Content" or "Content Library" Tab, from the popup choose "Categorize" and then navigate to a category that suits your needs. Tag the category you chose and klick on "Accept". It will now move from "Unassigned" to the new category and stay there.

As an example I categorized the little Mech' figure from the first picture from the posting above from the "Unassigned" to the "Transportation" > "Land" category. (Although, I'm realizing now that it would better fit to the "Figure" > "Mechanical" one, for it's nothing another humanoid figure can take place in).Tough coice. laugh

To make sure all your personal categorizing won`t be lost if a database crash occours (did happen once in a while with the old Valensina CMS), klick on the "Options Menu" icon from the "Content Library" Tab, choose "Content DB Maintenance..." tag "Export User Data" there, and hit "Accept". If you have to re-import your data for whatever reason, the changes you made manually will be kept there. If you do a lot of manual categorizing... export often. wink
