More Install Issues

Come on Daz this is getting ridiculous.
I've been around since 2003 and watched Studio get less and less intuitive. Harder and harder to use. More and more bloated. Attemprt assinine anti-piracy methods. Get locked into a single ecosystem.
I recently spent weeks trying to get Studio installed on a new laptop. Never happened. Forum ran out of ideas, your support ran out of ideas.

So needing to use a model I purchased today I attempted to install through DIM on an older PC. OF course it didn't have obj files. Why would it?

Well DIM forced me to chase my tail with dozens of failed installs for crap it had queued for some reason. Including Studio 4.2. Updating from 4.12. Well it says it installed except it is nowhere to be found. An DIM show installed is blank. ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS. Then I try to launch Studio. 4.12 tries to launch except now it has a file no found error for Dreamlight.dse. Ignore that and going to the model I just bought and downloaded today... It can't find it.

Save the replies. I know the It's never Daz's problem drill. Uninstall, Reinstall, rinse, repeat. Just me venting. And you as a company should really do better.

  • Now pile on zealots and tell me why I shouldn't complain because it's a free product.

Though one you must utilize to make use of a huge number of their models.

Yes I'm frustrated and more than a little ticked off.

  • DIM doesn't try to install things without permission, perhaps you just seelcted all (or all updates) without noticing that there was an application update in there.

In any event, that looks very much as if Daz Studio was running when you tried to install the update and yes, that will cause an issue - make sure the application is closed (check the processes in Task manager or the Mac equivalent, not just the TaskBar/Dock. as if there was much content in the scene before DS closed it may be doing some housekeeping in the background befroe fully closing).

  • Yep...

  • You are a class act Richard.

You've always been there to offer help. Successful or not I sincerely do appreciate your time and effort.

  • And for the recored DIM has NEVER asked for permission to install anything.

  • Do you have Install After Download checked at the bottom of the Ready To Download tab?

  • On my W10 laptop I can't install programs via DIM either. Run the installer manually. {W10 wants to double-check if the installer is to be allowed to run, can't do that through DIM} {this is the case on my laptop, not everybody's}

Do you have UAC turned of?

    I did indeed.
I've decided to purchase a similar model from another resource. One that offers an .obj version. And use another app to accomplish my task.
Thanks again Richard. And an excellent solution idea Catherine. Sadly unsuccessful.

I've decided to take a break from Daz for a while.
