Materials turned black after reloading scene

After reloading a scene, the materials on a figure turned black. I can't seem to get the materials back as I intended in the scene.

Here is an example how it used to look in a test render (the holes in the figure is due to being rendered as a canvas).

Here is an example how it renders now:

Anyone how knows how to fix this?

  • Which version of Daz Studio and which render engine? Which shader is that surface using - click with the Surface Selection Tool, then look at top-left of the Editor tab of the Surfaces pane.

I use the latest version of DS with IRAY, I used a materials setting that came with the character (Medusa) for the tail, all other materials/textures are not affected.

I saved the figure as a subset and made a new figure along side it in a new scene with the materials I originally used to compare the settings in the editor tab of the surface tab. I couldn't find a difference although the newly loaded figure did render correctly. I copied the surface settings from the new figure to the old and it still rendered as black, so I really don't understand what went wrong.

Weird thing is both figures do not show the materials used in the editor-tab as far as I can see, just a black base colour even though the new figure does display the materials correctly. So I really don't get what's going on.

I decided to make the figure completly new, but I still would like to understand what I'm missing.
