Do any "Wet Body" products for any Genesis figures work well in Iray?

They've been on my wishlist for a long time now, and just as I was considering getting one, it occurred to me: will this work in Iray as well as 3Delight?  I'm loving the new PBS, but I have noticed that many of my older textures need some tweaking, and even "converting" them usually requires extra work, too.  I know some of them use geometry shells, but I was considering the one that relies on L.I.E., as I mostly use G1 instead of G2 (I like being able to use the same clothes for males and females like uniforms, w/o the female versions being "sexy" compared to their practical male counterparts).  Anyways, I'm just curious as to whether or not they still work w/ Iray, and if they look much different, as well as if they'd work, just with a little (or a lot) of tweaking.  Any advice would be appreciated, and doubly so if you've got comparison renders.

    Hi Vueiy,

I have the Wet Body kit by SimonWM. I think thats the product youre talking about. I tried it out with V4 and I had no luck with it in IRAY. I loaded up several options on the character and I couldnt see a single wet body effect on her.

However, I have to say that I would not consider my attempt to be the final say on wether or not it works in Iray. I still do not have the best grasp on how to prepare older textures for Iray. It would be nice to hear from someone with a greater knowledge on the whole technical aspect of... things... and stuff... But anyhow, thats what I came up with. Sorry I couldnt be more help.

I've played around a little with the SimonWM WetBody kit. Simply applying the presets does create some visible effects, but they're not very satisfying: the effects are visible, but they don't look right.

Naively applying the Thin Water shader to the loaded presets gives an interesting effect -- my sample render looks like one seriously sweaty Vicky -- but it's not what we're after. This is perhaps predictable. If I understand correctly what Wet Body is doing, it's loading a 'geometry shell' -- an arbitrarily thin 'second skin' that clings to the figure -- and then using opacity, displacement and specularity maps to determine which bits of the shell will be rendered, and how. By simply slapping on an Iray shader, I've turned the whole shell watery, but blown away the maps that create the drip shapes.

Next, I tried loading the presets, then applying the Iray Uber Base shader to them (to "Iray-ify" them) and then tweaking some of the channels. The third test image shows what it looks like with:

    Translucency Weight: 0.68

    Refraction Index: 1.34

    SSS Amount: 0.5

It's fractionally better, but still not right.

I think someone who understands Iray shaders better than I do could probably come up with a recipe that would get these things to look right, but finding the right settings is challenging.

Well I haven't tried it in Iray, but https://www.daz3d.com/universal-wet-maps-and-orcamaid should work in iray.  I know it's V4 but if your using it on Genesis getting it to work isn't an issue.  It's only specular maps and if you don't want to mess with your characters regular spec maps, you can do this:

    1. Load Genesis.  Make sure it's selected.

    2. Create -> New Geometery Shell.  Make sure Parent to Selected Item is checked.  Use the Scene tabe to make sure it's selected.

    3.  Find the desired preset in the Orcamaid pose files.  Apply it to the Geo Shell.

    4.  Disable Multiple Specular Through Opacity.  Turn Opacity Strength up the 100% and apply an entirely black image to the opacity map.

If you want to use it on Genesis 2 Female, you'll need V4's UVs and need to rename the Geo Shell mat zones to V4 equivilants.  I'd show you the result in 3Delight if that render wasn't submited for a contest.  I'd make a quick one if my rendering machine wasn't busy rendering lol.

I doubt you'll need this but if someone else has the orcamaid product and wants to create a preset that won't mess with their skin settings, here is the answer.

In order to use geometry shells in Iray the shells cannot share the same mesh offset so this is something that needs to be accounted for.  Even if it is a difference of .00001 on the offset that will do the trick.  Our next version of Wet Body will be optimized for Iray.

Thanks for the info, everyone; that was really helpful.

Sweet, I think I'll hold out for that!  Here's hoping there's a Genesis 1 version!
