Ambient Occlusion for PBR textures

So far I've only seen genesis 8.1 have the option to add ambient occlusion how can I add ambient occlusion texture to an object such as a staircase?

  • AO is usually an effect of the shader on the surface or of the light, and is most often used in 3Delight rather than Iray. Can you be mor specific about what you are freferring to?

  • I am trying to import my AO texture on to a staircase that I textured on Substance and I was wondering what would be the best substitute in Daz3d to place the AO?

So you baked an AO map in Substance Painter?

AO maps just contain baked-in shadows right? For ray-tracing renderer like Iray, it is arguably not needed since shadows will be cast realistically.

Sometimes you might want to use AO map for edge-darkening purposes though.  I can see this as a genuine reason to want to use AO map.

Daz Uber Iray shader doesnt have a slot for AO but i guess there are ways you can use the AO map to darken your base color.  E.g., you could use it as Multiply mode in Layered Image Editor on the Base Color/Diffuse channel of the shader.  Or add it in Diffuse Overly...

  • Yes, in Iray an AO map would mainly be of use as a controller - for example, to identify areas that would not be worn (or cleaned) as much as others.

  • Sorry for the late response, nonetheless tested the AO on the diffuse overlay, the details were minor but, definitely noticed a small difference in my more intense lit scene.
