Given the recent wonderful discussion about which Michael is the 'best,' and with a new Vicky just around the corner... which Victoria was your favorite?

  • I don't really render the ladies, but I thought V8 was pretty nice looking.

overall use was V4. She was around a very long time. Might not have been technologicazlly superior by any means, but sure did her job.

    9 by far

  • In terms of how important the figure was? V4 hands down.

Otherwise, I never paid much attention to any Vicki except for treating her as a provider of generic HD details. In this regard V9 is an improvement because I remember her look.

I like them in roughly reverse order of release.

  • Just like Michael, the only one I use is 8.1, the others I don't think I've ever put in a scene.

For looks, probably 9 with 8.1 a close second. Having said that, I really liked the stylized look of Vicky 6, even though I don't really care for stylized figures. But the Genesis 2 figures were done well.

  • Total usage over the years would be V4.2, but haven't used her in a while.

Favourite look is between Vicky 7 and the new 9.

I don't have strong opinions but for what it's worth

(in reverse order of release, not in order of preference)

V9, V8.1 -> Looking great! I don't really need more pretty white ladies but if I did, these look like good options.

V8 -> Good body morph and decent skin, but I don't like her head morph

V7 -> Pretty good (if over-familiar) head morph but I don't like her body morph. Her skin is just fine.

V6, V5, V4 -> All look good to me, but nothing too special.

    I still rather like V4 (don't have V8.1)

  • Have to confess I am not a fan of V8 or 8.1. I think V9 looks absolutely stunning, but is beyond my current system's capability. V7 looks quite attractive too. The only other Victoria I have really used is V3, and there was a lot of work involved in hiding the joint problems she had.

But.. looks wise, I do feel Jim Burton's Glamorous Vickie 3 was the best early Victoria of them all, not only did she look good, but also corrected a few of the joint problems to be found with V3 by having her own DAZ approved CR2 file and didn't have to rely on V3 as a base figure. Not all the problems were corrected, and she had many more joint problems than V4, but was a stepwise improvement at the time.

    Regards,

    Richard.

  • Never been a Victoria fan. The Victoria(s) I spent most time and energy on, have been Victoria 2 and Victoria 3, who were just the best availeble figures at that time. I have never been into Victoria 4 and still don't understand the hype about her. She has mostly been useful for great portraits or backgrounds.
To answer the question, I think, the upcoming Victoria 9 will be the best.

Victoria 7 is the prettiest of all of them IMO, followed by 9.

For usability though, the Genesis 7 line had their own UVs which was annoying to use.  Victoria 4 of course a clear winner for versatility.

  • V9+1 V6+2 the rest are still well-made, just not my favourite!

    Agreed.

The others were terrific in their time.  I don't think I ever used any of the Victorias straight out of the box, but V9 will probably change that.

V7 - best combination of sculpt, maps and shader.

  • CybersoxCybersox Posts: 9,082

Add another vote for V7.   Really, I always felt that the entire line of Genesis 3 base figures had the most distinctive sculpts of any of the Genesis series, and as the first figures to start with an iray skin, V7 was a dazzling improvement over anything that came before across the board.  As for Genesis 8 and 8.1... those lines are really just moderate improvements on the basics establihed with Genesis 3, and I don't think either of their Vickies really felt unique, while the increased focus on facial bones started to push some of their expressions a bit too far into the uncanny valley.  That said, I do miss the fact that V4 didn't have to load every single morph up front, and that she had better articulation out of the box... but she was also a bit doll like.  And as to V9... I won't care, honestly, until she something approaching the massive library of assets that the G3/G8s have, and that's going to take years.

V9 looks gorgeous and feels like Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones.
For this reason she is better based on dedicated female mesh and not use unimesh or share her mesh with the males...
V8 / V8.1 look unimpressive but G8 / G8.1 have the best assets and plugins support.

After fighting with the near-ubiquitous nasolabial folds on Genesis 8 female characters, I came to really appreciate Victoria 7's youthful features. The PA characters based on her were my brand of cute.

But Victoria 9 looks nice and young from what I've seen, though you can never fully suss the idiosyncrasies of a figure before you work with them.

I think V7 is drop dead gorgeous and was the character that enticed me to move away from Poser to DS but way too recognizable. I still mix bits of her into both G3 & G8 characters though. V4 was generic like Genesis but I have tons of gorgeous morphs for her. I hate the look of V8, don't find her attractive at all, V8,1 is OK, just nothing special. V9 is pretty in a girl next door way but like V7 will be too recognizable. The whole Genesis & G2 line looks too toony and doesn't take expressions well and although I own them, never used either Vicki from those generations and didn't think they were attractive at all (although my favorite Aikos & Girl are from those generations.) Except for V7, I find that my favorite PAs create characters I like better than DAZ original core characters.

...even though I've never used any generation of Vicky straight "out of the box" without a lot of morphing I have to say I actually like Vicky 8 as she appears to have the look of a more "average" mature person rather than a leggy fashion magazine supermodel.

As to Vicky4, yeah, she was around for something like 5 years before Genesis appeared, and for the longest time, was the only Daz female figure other than the more stylised Girl, Aiko3 and  Sadie which were still regularly supported (I still have a soft spot for A3 and keep snatching up clothing and hair content for her when it's on a closeout sale). Later on Aiko 4 appeared followed by Girl4, and finally, Stephanie 4 all of which based on what was referred to as the core Vicky "unimesh" but each being more distinct in overall physique (though Aiko4 lost a fair degree of that anime look which made her Gen 3 counterpart so adorable).

The thing to remember is that Vickie 3 and 4 were really the equivalents of the Genesis 1-8.5 base figures, whereas Vickie 5 and up are simply characters that use the various Genesis Female bases as a starting point and really only exist to trade on the Victoria name.  Comparing Gen 4 Victoria to any of Genesis generation Vickies is therefore very much an apples and oranges situation.

..was making no comparison as that was the way I saw it as well with each "named" figure jsut a shape/morph set for the base Genesis X.

I simply was making a general observation about V4.

Isn't that the problem with any really great character, though?  Personally, I don't get the whole idea of buying a character someone else made and using it as is... well, except if it's a celebrity likeness... because it does feel like it's stealing away some of the individuality of your work when you see the exact same character used for a completely different purpose.

As a matter of expressions, Victoria 9 looks best for me.

The problem is that all we've seen so far is a small handful of examples under a very limited set of cirumstances with a single character morph, and all that came with the repeated proviso that it wasn't a final version and what we might ultimately get could change.  If you'll recall, for all the advertising hulabaloo about the improved use of facial bones over G3, the G8 figures in general have a well noted problem with smiles that break oddly in the middle, yet some vendors like bluejaunte were able to create extremely pleasant smiles using custom morphs.  Will the demoed expressions work as well on other characters as well as they seem to work on V9 specifically?  In the end, no one really knows how much better, if any, G9/V9 is going to do things versus the other generations except for the PAs who are already working with her, and they're no doubt buried under a stack of NDAs.  Which means that until it's actually out there and in the hands of people, it's premature to really say anything about how good or bad it will really be.  And, of course, there's also the little issue of there being nowhere near the variety of expression packs available for G9 as folks are already likely to have for the other generations for a good length of time...

Now, on the positive side, I do have to note that for the last few years DAZ has been doing a rather poor job of showing off what new products look like in their promo images.  No, let's amend that statement to "a spectacularly bad job," as in some of the promo images for base characters being so horrible that one wonders who in the world could have thought those images were good promotions for the product.  And yet, quite often even the very first test renders by artists on this side of forums have been better by orders of magnitude, so it's certainly possible that G9/V9 will look much better once it's handled by some of the better artists.

    Thanks for your thoughts, @Cybersox.

I agree, that it is too early to judge if Victoria 9 is really better,

but in the preview video was the comparison of the same expressions applied

    to Genesis 8.1 and Genesis 9 / Victoria 9.

The look of G9/V9 expressions was much better than on previous generation, IMHO.

Mine was Victoria 8.1 until the release of Victoria 9 and now Victoria 9 is. It's nothing to do with their "looks" but more the obvious improvements in the model's technical qualities.

The females have been much improved with less emphasis on the prior perfect 6' runway models. I think my favorite 3D female model, among the realistic ones, is Brooke, the Manhattan Socialite. She is very nicely done.
