slow deletes... an hour?
okay, ignoring the fact that things that rendered before in the previous studio... don't any more
I loaded an old scene, it crashed on render... then I remembered it had the part that the new daz didn't like...
removed them... still crashed...
---
so I said delete the entire building... that was a hour ago...
---
I fixed and resaved that building as a new file the other day...
--
so does 4.8 just have an issue with files created under the older versions...
--
it only took 3 minutes or so ( I wasn't watching that closely ... to load the scene.)
---
yes, I can rebuild the scene but there are 18 cameras set up for parts of it etc.
-----
at this point despite having no idea whether it's close to being done deleting the model ... I have to cancel it...
1) I want to do some more work
2) it's been running at more the 90% cpu for almost an hour...
---
is the a feature, is it a bug...
In one sense, I really don't have a feel for the amount of time to do deletes: because I've never had to disassemble my scenes to find what's wrong....
---
Question... can objects outside the rendered area cause the render to crash
-----
no problem with all these renders in studio 4.6

Which renderer are you trying to render in?
4.8 has Iray set as the default. If you are trying to render a scene that was set up for 3Delight, in Iray, without converting it...you may crash. If you are trying to render a 3Delight scene in Iray on a machine that is borderline or has onboard video and less memory than a bit more than 2x the scene size, you may crash...
There are a number of other reasons, too...but without knowing your specs it makes it harder to pin down.
3d delight.... 24 gigs of ram... (I've completed renders with 22 gigs used for daz and system.)
----
just brought that building into 4.8 .(scene subset) ... about two minutes to load, two minutes to delete...
but trying to delete it from the old scene...
no luck...
===============
this may be related to the I've used this and not going to change as in trying to test new textures...
---
I loaded the file...
it crashed
I removed the parts that made it crash before
it still crashed...
BUT
I just reloaded the file
and the parts that I removed above were gone
and it rendered without crashing...
---
so it was necessary to close the program before it wanted to acknowledge the parts removal.
------
but even with that and the fact it loaded the file in about 3 minutes.
It has still failed to remove one part in 8 minutes...
and it's the part that I tested and deleted in about 2 minutes earlier...
when it was loaded directly into 4.8 instead of being in a file from 4.6...
---
on the other hand the crash file does identify my system as an AMD 8 core i7 920 intel processor... hmmm...
It didn't have any problems with scenes earlier tonight that were created in 4.8...
---
but just in passing do any of the render engines produce a scene that looks like the set up scene....
---
this scene worked fine except of course the difference between the preview and the render.
