Here are my piles of palm fronds and pine and oak branches I picked up out of the yard and hauled to the curb today, now that things have dried out enough to gather them. We were very lucky that this is all we had to deal with from Ian.
This is from ONE yard?! Oh dear ...
But it sure looks lovely where you live otherwise. Hope it stays that way, nevertheless.
Yes, one yard. It is a lovely area. It is surprising how many fronds can fall from a few palms when it gets windy. When the fronds die, they stay in the tree for a long time as new ones grow above from the center. Eventually they fall, and when it is windy, a lot come down. We have quite a few palms that are native Sabal Palms. The two huge oaks at the end of the driveway are also natural and far older than the neighborhood. There are also natural pine trees that are very tall and skinny. We didn't plant any of this. It just grew on the land naturally and was not cleared when the house was built.
Hey fellow survivors! I've lived in Lee county all of my life. It's bad, not just for us, but for all Floridians! Keep us/them in your prayers.
Good to hear from you and that you are a survivor!! I didn't realize you were a Floridian. I will keep you and others in my thoughts.
Thank you!
I just saw a before and after map of the SW Florida coastline and a lot of land is not "just flooded" but actually gone now. It was a shock to see for sure. That coast is all relatively new (in geological time) mangrove beachheads.
