Daz releases Torian 8.1, to my taste the most attractive guy of the 8.1 generation - and nobody says anything about him? Or have I missed something? https://www.daz3d.com/torian-81

The textures look really nice for sure, but the morph ... Dunno. To me, he has something strangely unintelligent about him which repulses me. I think it might be the brow area jutting forward so mightily. Makes him look like he's permanently going, 'huh? Whawa'that?' And there's nothing humorous or nice in his face to balance this. Again, my view only!
I rather have a problem with his ears. From the detail text, I can't tell if they can be morphed into normal ears or not. I have no use for 'elven' ears. Unfortunately, I can't download and try the figure right now.
Let us know when you have a chance about the ears, please. I like the character a lot but then I noticed the ears and didn't see a non-elf promo. I don't do fantasy stuff. Thanks!
Yeah I was just coming in to ask if there was a non-elf ear that wasn't mentioned. I've nothing against Elf Ears but he is significantly less flexible if that is all he comes with.
When I look at the promo page for Torian himself, it does have a morph, "Torian 8.1 Ears". It seems to me that setting this to 0 should remove the pointy shape. I too am debating making the purchase...I would have hoped for Fibermesh brows, though.
Yes, he does have a regular ear morph. I quite like him.
Thanks - it would have been useful if they had that in the promos
That's what I'm talking about, Daz! Torian 8.1's face has personality. Instantly, you can see character---whether it is perceived as subtly malevolent or borderline dullard is not as important to me as the fact that there is clearly a mind (of whatever quality) behind that face. And the skin. I thought of an evil Timothy Dalton when I saw him.
@caravelle, if I'd checked the store at Daz midnight, then I would've started a thread for this great male presence, especially since I intend to be a (very) late adopter on Genesis 9, unless Daz can somehow get over fumbling Michael's face for the third time in a row.
Assassin, Wolfgang, Zale, Necromancer, Torment, & Torian make 8.1 the perfect menu for crafting an antagonist or dark protagonist. Torian sans ears, Wolfgang, & Zale are so striking that I'm tempted to use them as is.
Thank you! I'll be picking the character up for sure.
@xyer0: That's exactly what I mean: personality. You describe what matters very well.
In fact, Genesis 8.1 M has some core characters who make very good anti-heroes; you named them. Torian really looks a bit like Timothy Dalton - with a dash of Daniel Day-Lewis in his expression. I like both of them.
@alken: Thank you!
Yes! You're right, caravelle. Daniel Day-Lewis from The Last of the Mohicans promo resembles Torian 8.1's main promo. With the PC+ sale discount I can get Torian and HD at a $10 saving over the usual intro price. Too bad I already used my PC+ coupons.
Luckily, I was able to use my DO coupon on him. $13 - that's a nice price. But without HD, of course. Because I liked Torian 8.1 so much, I took the MetaMixer addon right away ;-D
Sorry, wrong thread. Here is Torian
Here's a quick render I did with him - I think the sculpt and texture are great. Had to photoshop those dark bags under his eyes, though. No problem with the ears, it's a separate morph.
Like the bundle. Not in my budget during this sale unfortunately.
Nice pics, Serene Night and bohemian3!
What is the benefit of buying the base model shape AND the metamixer? I assumed the metamixer was for if you didn't have the base model. I've not used it before, so this is a genuine question, not a criticism.
Ildanach, with MetaMixer you only use the head/face of a character - without the morphs of the body.
But can you not do that already with the base model? It has a separate head morph that doesn't change the body
@Ildanach Metamixer needs the add-ons to work. If you have the add-on without the character, then you can use it with Metamixer. If you have the character without the add-on, then you CANNOT use it with Metamixer. I was hoping Daz would do add-on versions of their most popular Core Figures, but they haven't.
His eyes seem a little to small to me but other than that, I really like him!
The metamixer add-on divides the head morph into around 68 separate partial morphs. You want the character to use Floyd's nose, Michael's left ear, and old Jeb's right ear, the Metamixer add-on's will make that possible.
@PerttiA - Ah okay, that makes sense now. I didn't know this before
Generally, Daz characters have larger eyes than the normal human range. Punching in the average palpebral fissure length (31.08mm +/- 1.79mm for males and 29.90mm +/- 2.18mm for females) tends to make the whole eye look too small. Iris diameter is typically between 10 and 13mm. I find anything less than 12mm doesn't work.
I don't know the measurements of Torian but, using the Eyes Size* and Eyes Iris Size morphs, try the changing to the figures above for a potentially more 'realistic' size.
* I prefer the Eyes Scale morph from 200 Plus as the falloff around the morph is smoother at more extreme values.
are the eyebrows fibremesh/independent geometry?
or are they just painted onto the texture maps?
i couldnt tell from the preview renders, but really liked those eyebrows.
The eyebrows are painted; there is a brow less texture included.
Yeah, I didn't even consider if the ears could be removed. I took it for granted. They can. They come loaded with Torian 8.1 Ears but, look in 'Currently Used' in Parametrs and dial them to 0.
I actually don't like him. I like what others gave done with him but, after loading him I've immediately started to think how can I make him less Torian? I've ended up dialling everything to 0 and I still don't like him. So I concluded the thing I dislike most is the skin. So removing the skin he's workable. Putting a different skin on him makes him look like my dad though so, maybe that's why he's given me the willies a bit.
