Using dForce to drop a shoulder strap

I have a dForce top on G8 and I want to make the shoulder strap drop off the shoulder.  I'm trying to use dForce to do this, but can't figure out how.  

I tried creating a small torus around the strap, gave it a static dForce modifier, and created a short animation where it moved down the shoulder.  But the top did not react to the torus at all during the simulation.

Am I going about this all wrong?  is it even possible? Am I an idiot for even trying?  

Any help would be gratly appreciated.

    Are you sure the strap is responding to dForce at all? Try simulating the dress in isolation - does it fall to (or through) the floor or do parts stay put, leaving the rest hanging down?

    Well, it wasn't the top.  After deleting the torus and stating all over (doing everything exactly the same as before), it worked.  Weird!
