Hardware for Viewport vs Render?

Quick question, I rarely end up rendering finished scenes and tend to just dabble in the viewport. That said, my goals are a snappy, real-time viewport instead of fastest render times. I would assume that hardware that speeds up render times also drives a snappier "real-time" viewport... but just wanted to double check...

Using which Drawstyle?
IRAY
You are not going to get real time rendering out of Iray, but yes hardware that boosts rendering will boost the Iray Drawstyle. A remaining limitation will be the need to transfer the data to the GPU - for a full render that is usually a small part of the process, but with a constantly updating preview it becomes much more significant.
does any other similar quality renderer get me closer?
The Filament drawstyle will get you close to realtime rendering if it is an option for you. When that drawstyle was added, it wasn't available to MAC users. I don't know what the status of that is.
Changing the viewport to Filament will initially be "blown out" and unusable, increase the Environment>Exposure value to around 15 to get a working viewport. There are some Filament specific utilities in the store, but I haven't tried any of them.
To render a Filament viewport, change the Render Engine to "Viewport" before clicking the Render button.
