It was $10/month for Photoshop + Lightroom when I signed up. Maybe it's changed for new subscribers? I get charged $10.61/month after tax.
Most likely
Still there...
https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/photography/compare-plans.html
Yep, so instead of $3,600 $120 annually, it's $7,560! $240 -Thanks for the correction…
How anyone could think this is a good deal is just what those greedy ^%#0o marketing #$!^** over at adobe want, were I a billionaire I'd buy them out and discontinue that ^%#%@ rent-ware model immediately!
You're right, I screwed up my maths…
Huh this is also from ther site
https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/plans.html
The $10 plan strangely doesn't show on the "All" page. You have to choose the "Photo" tab to see the cheaper option. Kinda lame.
Except Photoshop is $10/mo? That's cheaper than Netflix by half.
And back when you'd have to buy the whole shabang...if you wanted to keep up with updates and get the next version, you'd have to pay for half the shabang all over again for the new update. Now, for $10/mo, I'm always up to date and I always have the newest version. So I can see your point, but that would have worked only if you were content as a user to stay on the one version forever and never buy an update.
In a world where subscriptions just keep going up and up...seriously, my Netflix is like $19.99 a month now...Photoshop is the one monthly charge that hasn't changed a dime since I started several years back.
(Seriously, if T-Mobile wasn't paying for Netflix for me, I'd likely have cancelled a while ago...because $19.99 a month??? Holy jeebuz.)
You are right. However, the Photography Plan which includes Photoshop and Lightroom is US$9.99 per month. No logic to it.
Edited - I guess I should read the whole thread before commenting...lol
I'm paying $30/month for the entire Adobe suite of products. Since I earn an income from my art and photography it's tax deductible. On a side note, I'm tired of my other posts getting deleted when I try to get Daz to up their game to professional applications instead of catering to sensitive hobbyists who don't have thick skins. The art world is tough.
Do you also have information about CS6 Master Collection? I searched their site but can't find anything.
Issue is, I can install it, get it to work somehow, but after some weeks all Apps stop working. Has to do with some licence database file that gets invalid after some weeks. I then need to uninstall, and begin from scratch. I assume it is an intenional timebomb they implemented to force users into CC. Called them years ago and also got the answer, "no support, buy CC". Well, I bought Affinity and got Blackmagic Resolve and Fustion (free) instead.
But if they introduced a solution later on, I would be happy to install Acrobat Pro from the package - or offer the whole CS6 online, maybe software collectors exist.
I'm glad there are still some companies that don't try and shoe-horn their business model on folks by blocking the upgrade path, as ZBrush and Affinity Photo is the gold standard for me, but yes, it is a much better price than I first “calculated” :P (I really do suck at maths!)
However, my issue is less the actual price and more of adobe starting a rotten trend that software devs are abusing, as of now many are holding back the upgrades behind a bloody paywall and all thanks to adobe's rentware strategy >8^(
Be that as it may, I'm glad that you won't have to pay out your backside for using this program, I just wish that they would have taken on the ZBrush model with BOTH a stand-alone and a subscription model, seeing as both are industry standards they will always have companies paying a premium for their progs, so they won't be going broke by adopting the ZBrush model.
But, unfortunately, that is not the reality we are living in, and there is no shortage of software devs that will offer a more reasonable alternative, so there's that!
Here's to you never having to pay netflix prices, and I hope your creations flourish no matter what software you use! :)
Most hobbyists are not yet experienced with that world as we are hobbyists, professionals are a whole different breed altogether, so yeah if you're a pro, then $30 is not really an issue, but for hobbyists…
Still I must agree that Daz needs to try both, a zbrush inspired model for pros and the current for hobbyists, I'd love to see Daz as an industry-standard for human 3D models, as they are unique in this industry as having such a dense model with all the morphs included still being able to be manipulated without bringing an average system to its knees, it takes a powerful program to be able to manipulate these characters!
Even at $10 per month, half a year's subscription would pay for Affinity Photo outright - once only payment. Comparing it to Netflix is just a false equivalence ... Netflix keeps adding content as the months go by. That's why I do pay a subscription for streaming but not for software. To claim that Adobe includes updates in the subscription is not an argument either. I get updates for Affinity Photo quite regularly and have not yet paid a penny more than my initial outlay (which wes a half-price offer, by the way).
If someone can explain the economic justification for an Adobe Subscription I'd be interested - for example, just what is so much better than the alternatives? Sure, if you are a professional artist or studio you can justify the expense and claim a portion back on your tax return (possibly) but for the hobbyist, I see nothing so special about Photoshop that is not available elsewhere either at a reasonable price or even for free (maybe a combination of both).
I'm just too lazy to deal with a learning curve. I know Photoshop already.

A patch for optimizing GIMP 2.10+ for Adobe Photoshop users
It's been mentioned already but still wanted to mention it again that Photoshop Elements is still a thing, it can be purchased on the Adobe website itself and it's honestly pretty complete for its price:
https://www.adobe.com/nl/products/photoshop-elements.html
I've been using their complete 'suite' for several years already which consists of the elements versions of both Photoshop and Premiere. Adobe also includes their media organizer which - in my opinion of course - can be really useful for keeping track of all your media files (pictures, movies and sound files). Basically it can set up a database and add all your media files without physically moving them. This makes it really easy to create albums and such where you can group images (and other files) together. Somewhat comparable to the Daz Studio smart content panel.
As for PE... it's quite capable of doing a lot of things, many of Photoshop's specific features are also available here; think about smart selection and such (extremely useful IMO).
Although I don't often use it myself Premiere can also be really useful to create portfolio presentations; basically creating a slideshow of all your images. Of course.. the real idea is to use it for video, which it can obviously do to.
But yah... I'd go for Elements. You're even entitled to a nice upgrade discount if you want to get a new version. For example: I have Elements '22 and can upgrade for just a small part of the total costs. All on the Adobe website.
Of course not, Adobe is going to push the more expensive Photographer Plan that includes the 9.99/mo 1TB cloud storage and make people search for the more reasonable plan without the 1TB cloud storage
It's not that I have anything against Elements as an alternative but the fact that it is Adobe and I am now very Adobe averse. Maybe I'm missing out on something but I know that Adobe have not been the most customer friendly company I have dealt with over the years. I had an old version of Photoshop Elements which came included in the price of a GPU. Sometime later I wanted to upgrade that version and Adobe refused to recognise it so the special upgrade price was denied. That was the first of several issues that finally resulted in me swearing never to buy anything from them again.
Interesting, I wnt to cut down my ps plan, you suggest moving to elements will be the smart move?
I don't know what you can do with Affinity Photo Pro, but here is what I use Photoshop for the most -
Photoshop also has the ability to open and work with 3D files, though I haven't really scratched that surface. (I really want to learn more about the 3D capabilities). Affinity Photo may provide free updates on a perpetual license, but Photoshop never did. Back when you had to buy the license, if they introduced a new version, you had to upgrade to it, which was about half the price of the original license. That's why I could never afford it. (I used Elements instead at the time). I for one am more than grateful for the affordable suscription model.
Yup, I've drunk the Photoshop kool-aid...it does everything I want it to do and more...I'm constantly learning new neat things it can do...I already know how to use it and am comfortable with the controls and interfaces...and...it would be the last suscription service I'd ever cancel. I don't miss the $10/mo. But everybody finds what works for them. Photoshop is what does it for me.
The fact that I don't know what half of those terms mean is testament to the fact that I'm just a hobbyist without the need for such advanced features. Nevertheless, I'm not sure but I think Affinity can do several of those (e.g. Layer masks. Blend Modes, Camera Raw, etc.) and other software, like (the free) Krita can paint with a pen (I have an XP-Pen screen which works with both Affinity and Krita).
I have Photoshop CS6 Standard myself, have had it installed in Win 8.1 for several years without any license problems. I deactivated it recently since I decided to move it to a Win 10 PC, but haven't done that yet, so I can't tell what will happen when trying to re-activate it on the other PC, but I'd expect it to work as it should be Win 10 compatible. That's all I can say, unfortunately.
When Affinity came out, I bought it right on that premise. "If I ever need Photoshop, I'll just resub again." Never had to resub since I got Affinity Photo. Saved me a lot of money :)
These are all in Affinity AFAIK.
i bought affinity photo perpetual about 25 usd
never used it, but sounds great alternation
You can probably pick up a genuine copy of Jasc Photoshop on ebay, Corel is good because they give you free updates, and when they upgrade you get a discount. I loved Photo Impact as well, unfortunately lost the original in a computer move or should I say crash and burn and ended up looking at something else. I loved Ulead though it was an easy operating system, so is Jasc and it does PNG. in PSP format layering and everything. I would say Jasc Photoshop 7 or 9 is going to cost you around 10.00 to 20.00 dollars on ebay
Just a note about Photoshop Elements... it's GUI sucks and is childish... it's like that "Free Photo Creativity Package" you used to get when you'd buy a printer... that and certain features like styles are very limited.
It's fine if you want to alter tone, saturation and other basic photo editing stuff and want to stick with methods that are still more or less the same as older photoshop versions... but once you start wanting to do something like adding a glow to text or something like that you start to get pissed off about how they changed and limited little details.
Honestly, you can more or less get the full photoshop experience without doing the subscription, you just have to buy or get a bunch of different image editors... some are missing certain similar photoshop features, some sorta do them okayish and some actually do it better... but none are all in one package... it's like tool kits... one might have a perfect set of pliers, one might have a great saw, another an amazing sonic screwdriver, but the rest of the tools are average or megh.
I'm fine with that because no way in hell I'm ever going to pay Adobe a cent for a photoshop subscription.
I use elements 11, for PS Brushes about the only thing I need from PS.
Thanks a lot Charlie Judge for posting that info.
Coincidentally I tested the 2023 trial today and was impressed with the auto paint. Was searching for exacty such a feature half the day. But I thought more than 400 bugs is to much and I have Clipstudio and Affinity plus a bunch of other tools already. And then I saw your post.
I have just ordered the package, 20 mins before timeout, puh that was close. It is the 2022 version, but not much of relevance to me has changed in 2023.
You saved my day mate.
I can easily import Photoshop brushes (,abr) into Affinity Photo.
Ok, thanks for letting me know.
