Occlude Node Without Canvases

Hello,

I'm trying to get a render of a shield and its shadow, exclusively. The 2nd image is almost what I need, but the shadows that the shield casts on the man's body are still present. How can I tell the render to not include any pixels that would be on the body? I can't use canvases because I need the ground shadow. Iray Matte is what's currrently being used to hide the man. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • If all you want is the shield and it's shadow, on the ground, just 'hide' the character in the scene or parameters tab.

In the Scene tab, click the eye icon, or in the parameters tab, select Visible in render, and turn that to off.

  • Hey DrunkMonkey,

I'm needing the occlusion though. Notice in the 2nd image how there's a cut-out from the shield's shadow where his arm is. It also cuts the body out of the shield, when the shield is behind the man, like in the attached example. Everything is working fine except for those unwanted black body shadows.

I essentially need a way to make a node not 'recieve' shadows.

Due to the nature of Iray Photoreal I don't think it's possible. Unfortunately the Iray Matte setting doesn't work with canvases or Iray Interactive, otherwise I'd probably have a solution by now.
