A bug in lighting?

I wanted to point out something that perhaps you are aware of, but is driving me crazy.  I think it is actually a bug in Daz Studio, but perhaps there is a way out of it that you know of. Look at the screenshot from my DS app below:

Notice that the Light Geometry is set as a rectangle and that the Render Emitter is On.  I have a mirror behind the model.  To the right of my ViewPort, I show a small picture of what happens when I render it.  Note how the rectangle appears in the render, both in front of the model, and in the mirror reflection. Now look at what happens when I turn Render Emitter to "Off":

Note that the light rectangle no longer appears in front of the model, but still appears in the mirror.

This has been driving me crazy because those light rectangles get reflected not just in mirrors, but any reflective surface, of which the most annoying is when shooting indoors and they appear in the windows. If I change the Light Geometry to "Point", the problem goes away, but I don't get the advantage of the light rectangles. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Eeek... Naked ladies... You better put some clothes on her fast.

  • This is not a bug, it is how Iray works - Render Emitter affects only primary rays, driect camera view, if the light is seen through another object or in relfection it will be visible regardless.

Interesting.  I guess I can see why it would be that way, but it sure is an annoyance because I will now need to start changing the geometry to "Point" for those packages I use that have the rectangle as the default.  Ugh...
