How to fix emission luminance from washing out the color of my emitter texture?

I am working with a sphere with a moon's texture on it. The moon's texture has an emission applied to it.

When I increase the luminance of my moon's emission, the texture of my moon gets washed out.

Is there a way to make the moon's texture less affected by the moon's emission?

I can put the moon far away and then use a spotlight to emulate the moon's rays on the water but is there a better way to do this?

Here is an old thread that might help.

I would say you shouldn't crank your emission up too much.

If you are lacking light in the scene you should consider adjusting your tone mapping. Imagine tht you want to take a picture in actual moonlight. That would require a sensitive film.
