What is the difference between a HD G8 character and regular G8 character

Is it the higher skin texture quality? Could you make a HD character less taxing on a scene by adding regular character skin to it?

    It is the topology.  If there are veins, for example, they are just suggested and barely model with the idea that the normal and bump map will do the heavy lifting while the HD character will have more defined surface features at a higher resolution.  Hd is only useful at higher subdivision and is most useful in close ups especially extreme closeups.  At a distance, use the regular figure.  The texture maps have far less impact than the high subdivision

    Gottit. If you happen to forget what character might be HD in a scene full of many characters is there a way you can click on them to find out quickly?

    Strictly speaking, any Daz figure can be made HD just by increasing subD. The difference between an HD and non-HD character is whether they include details sculpted at a higher resolution. You could select a character, go to the Currently Used morphs and search HD, but that won't always get results if the morph isn't explicitly labeled as HD.

  • HD morphs can move the additional vertices created by sub-division, up to a certain limit. Normal morph move only the vertices of the base geometry, though the result will then be smoothed by SubD. Generally an HD morph will have HD in its name.
