Cheapest way to go about a scene.

Hello I'm just a beginner with Daz 3D. What would be a fast cheap way to create a female dressed in office attire? Note : no snake hair, no amulets etc. Once I've clothed the model (that's the trouble, there's not many clothes in the basic version, but I understand the business model Daz use), so as I was saying, once clothed, I want to pose her into an 'enviroment' and I was thinking of using a 2D .BMP or .PNG image, and layering the model on top. Any tips about this? Remember all I've done is follow the built in interactive guide. Then, I produced a render, but in no way finished.

  • You can integrate a render with a photo, though your first challenge would be to match the lighting. However, having done that you can use primitives (Create>New primitive) to fake the furnishings - particularly the one that will take shadows from the figure or block the view of the figure - then select them and from the Content Library pane run Scripts>Utilities>Create Advanced Iray Node Properties. This will add an Iray Matte button to the Parameters pane, turn it on and the primitives will catch shadows and reflections (so you may want to adjust their glossiness-related settings in the surfaces pane) but will be invisible and will hide whatever is behind them, leaving you with a render that shows the visible parts of the figure and their shdow which you can layer on top of your background image.

In addition to what Richard said, in general terms it is possible to find some free assets out there to use while you are learning the software. Check the Freebies forum for some links and stuff. However, female clothing sells really well and so you may struggle to find suitable office outfits if you are not ready to spend yet. Depending on your needs there may be a free Daz environment out there tho.

As for tips on placing a 3D object in a 2D image I haven't done this myself but I have read a bit about using FSpy for this. There is a Daz plugin for this to make importing the data from fspy easier. If that's something which sounds like it might help there is a little more discussion about it in this thread.

  • Hello, thanks for the answer. I'm having a problem : I try an add clothing, it doesn't seem to fit, because the figures arms are in a different postion. Any tips?

  • That sounds as if the clothing was made for a different figure, though you should get the AutoFit dialogue in that case (assuming it is a rigged model and not just a static object).

There is lots of free content available have a look on ShareCG and at Renderosity's freebie pages.

I would suggest looking for clothing for the character you want to use. So if that's Genesis 8 female only download things that say they are specific to her. Otherwise you will have problems with the fit of clothing and would need to use the autofit which is probably not something a total beginner would know about.

So I would search the net for clothing freebies for your model that you're using.

I would if you download freebies extract them to a folder that you can check prior to installing as sometimes they include things like a My library folder or a content folder and you don't want to create nesting folders.

So have a look at the file structure on your downloads you are most likely looking for ds specific content at this point so when you open it up you should see a people folder and a runtime folder and possibly a readme folder. These are the folder you'll need to transfer across to where your content folder is.

Make a note of looking at the file structure in the file you've downloaded so you can find it when it's installed. If you need any help, ask I'm happy to help and I'll favourite the thread so I see if you ask.

Edited to add: the link to shareCG is in my signature. I do have a dress for Genesis 8 but it's more sundress than office wear. I am working on a dress that could be used for office wear but that will be released in the Fantasies Attic Christmas freebie event.

  • Hi

I purchased some clothing for Genesis 8 Female and I managed to add it to the 'Content Library'. This a Genesis 8 Female figure. The problem is the dress has some embarassing holes in it. How would I go about fixing this?

  • Is this the same clothing as mentioned here https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/7766971/#Comment_7766971 ? Please don't split the same discussion across multiple threads - it makes it much harder to sort out what is happening.

  • Hello.I'll use this thread for problems. How do use this file https://sharecg.com/v/97282/browse/21/DAZ-Studio/Walther-2.0-sneakers-with-socks-for-G8M? I tried : extracting it, revealing Data People and Runtime.  Then copying the folders to the Daz 3D folder, the folder is C:\Users\GreenBus\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library (My user name is a colourful mode of transport, but sentimentally chosen). Then I tried to locate it in the Smart Content pane, however I couldn't find it listed under "Wardrobe"

  • Dos it appear in the Content Library under Daz studio Formats>My Library>People>Some folders? Smart Content requires additional metadata which freebies do not always include, and which would have to be imported anyway (is there a Runtime/Support folder with a .dsx file in it?).

Using the scene tab check who the item is fit to by right clicking on the item and selecting fit to. It should be fit to Genesis 8

If that isn't the problem, try removing the bikini as it might be causing issues as the two garments are intersecting.

Free items are unlikely to show up in smart content. If you don't already have you content pane open go to Window/tab to open it.  If you need images I can do it tomorrow but I'm waiting on a render to finish before going to bed.

In the content tab there are a number of ways of finding it for now lets stick to the easiest.

On the left hand side should be a list that includes Daz formats. Click on that. You content library should show up. If not you'll need to set them up under edit /preferences.

This is where you  need to look for the people folder that you copied across, then look for genesis 8 male. Inside this folder should be one called clothing have a look in there for the sneakers.

Then it's   just a case of double clicking on the icon for the sneakers.

I'll try to remember in the morning to do some images and a proper run thru...this is from memory as I have a render running.

Sorry if there are any typing errors. I have a cat assisting me.
