What needs to be disabled or moved in draw style so the yellow shapes do not appear on mouse overs?

    Highlight style - set it to Bounding Box Only

    Just in case Richard's tip wasn't enough to help you find it ... It is a Draw Style setting as shown in this screen shot. I just tone down the highlights instead of removing them because they can be helpful.

    You can also turn the selectability of the yellow items off.  This is done in the Scene tab by clicking on the weird arrow+checkmark so that the check mark (tick sign) by the arrow becomes a cross.  ctrl-click to disable selection of everything.  This has the advantage that you do now get a yellow highlight for the things you might accidentally select otherwise.

    It took me years to work this out, but now whenever I am plagued by the yellow fungus I simply make the wall behind the objects unselectable.  In fact most of the time I make the whole building unselectable.

    jbowler is that different from locking the item?  will not turn yellow and will not be able to be selected
