preserve textures when applying a material preset

Hey Folks,

can someone remind how we preserve textures when applying a material preset? I know I've seen it on here but can't seem to find it today.

thanks

Hold CTRL and double-click the preset.

Also, if you set the options in the dialog, you can SHIFT-click a preset and it'll used your saved options.

When I do that I see a popup with many options - like merge into scene but none seem to preserve the exisitng tetxures. I'm on a Mac - does that make a difference?

Are you sure it's an actual materials preset you're clicking on? That sounds more like the popup you get when you ctrl-click on a scene file.

For a materials preset, you get a small popup with two dropdown menus — one to apply the preset to "all" materials or only "selected" materials on the object, and one to "replace" all textures already on the object, or "ignore", which applies the materials settings to the object but doesn't replace the textures. Note this difference carefully, if you just click straight through without paying attention you might have the wrong effect added to your object, or even nothing happening at all.

Ctrl-click on the preset...then select Ignore in the dialogue box that pops up.
