Upgrade from DDR4 to DDR5?

Hello,

I'm thinking about some upgrades for my workstation.
My question is... does it make sense to upgrade from DDR4 to DDR5 ram.

Does it significantly boost render times with iray or boost the navigation in daz and the loading times of scenes and figures?

thank you in advance.

If you're rendering in Iray you'd be better off upgrading your graphics card rather than your system memory.

Faster memory may speed up DAZ Studio a little but shouldn't make much difference to loading times since these are dependent far more on the speed of your hard disks rather than system memory speed.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

Also it may not be that simple as just changing DDR4 to DDR5, does your motherboard support both?
If not, you also have to replace the motherboard at least.

Yes the GPU is already planed. I will upgrade it for sure.

I was just wondering if I should upgrade to a whole new system with also new mainboard, cpu and ram.

But it looks like you wouldn't recommend it?

I'm ready to upgrade and get the 4090 graphics card. It was suggested I get DDR 5 as well, which I think is a good idea to future proof the new computer. However, as I am going to purchase from ipower or a similar place that builds the computer to your specifications, I found I couldn't configure it to a DD5 64gb, they only go to 32gb. They said two sticks of 32 are not stable at this time, thus they don't offer that option. They will when it is deemed stable. At the same time, you can add the ram. Just letting you know fwiw. I'm just going to wait a bit for that reason.

All DS needs is lots of VRAM (on Nvidia RTX GPU) and 3 times as much RAM

  • So 24GB VRAM with 32GB of DDR5 isn't good?
right now I have 64GB DDR4 I unsure if I should it. I will go for the 4090..
