WTH? "layered image editor" workflow in shader completely revamped (dumped down) in 4.21

Now it's impossible to copy one extra image layer in shader's "layered image editor" like it used to!!

The only possible way to do that is to manually select the image layer texture from that exact product file folder and god knows where it locates among thousand asset folders.

MIND YOU DAZ, before 4.20.02/4.21 you only need to click the + button do that!! after the workflow revamp, this section became completely useless.

As they say, "you don't fix something that aint broken", in this case, you dumbed down something that used to work so well, why?

And roll back a Daz version is still officially unavailable.  I only trying the latest DAZ for Gen9, what a regretful decision!

  • I don't understand your issue - is it about the default path used when browsing for an image?

I don't remember exactly how was the LIE before Daz added blend modes. But everything seems to work as usual.

I tried to copy/paste layers, it works fine.

If I click the +button it takes me to the folder of the currently assigned texture which sometimes wasn't working before.

Everything seems just fine ? I don't get what's different, or especially what's worse than before. As far as I can see LIE just : works.

  • If it is the paths, see http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log_4_21_0_5#4_20_1_68

Fixed an issue in “Layered Image Editor” that caused the file selection dialog to not initialize to the path of the currently assigned resource

The way LIE was before 4.21, you just go to LIE and click the + button, it duplicates one exact image layer you selected without any selection, period.

Now, instead of give you a 1 to 1 copy, you are forced to select the exact image layer from the file folder.  Problem being 1. it makes things far more complicated  2. the file path always memorize your last selected folder by default, for example, if I worked on a cloth layer, it would bring me to the texture folder of that cloth product, true, but then when I moved on to the skin, it still bring me to the cloth texture folder, if I want dupliate that skin layer, I must find the very G8 figure file path first

technically, it does "work", by complicating a one click step into a multi stage unnecessary folder seeking nightmare.

Do you have some editor plugged in? Because I can just say, the "copy the layer" is not true. It always loads a black layer. You then simply go to the original layer, at the bottom you use the "Copy Layer" setting, copy the original layer and select the new layer. There you paste the material settings.

I am still working with 4.16 at the moment, and have been working with the Studio software since 2014, and I just double-checked. The LIE function hasn't changed.

The chnages, as described in the change log, are to move the buttons (so theya re closer to the layers, reducing mouse movement), the addition of right-click menus (again to reduce the need to move between buttons and elements), the use of standard icons instead of text to identify the buttons,  paste options require that cmd/ctrl be held (so the most comon action doesn't require an extra click), and bug fixes.

I do not recognise the behaviour described for the older versions.

The starting path issue is resolved as note in my previous post
