So when do you think we'll be able to use Face Transfer on Genesis 9? I tried and all it did was import a clothed Genesis 8 Male figure and applied the transfer to it. I haven't tried again to see if that was just a fluke.

Yes, this is really important.
And yes, for the record, I am using the latest version of Studio, which I believe is 4.21. I even checked to see if there was an update after Genesis 9 came out and there wasn't.
I'll be holding out for G9 support on FaceGen. I've had such great results with that program for virtually all generations of the figure.
looks like i'm sticking with Gen8 untill there is more compatability and updates
I'm sure updates will come. Just seems the release was a bit premature.
Not buying any more Gen9 stuff till Facetransfer is resolved.
That's not done with any of the face morphing plugins ... that's done with texturing.
Regardless, has anyone been able to get Face Transfer to work on Genesis 9? I guess I can always do it on Genesis 8 and just use the Transfer Utility to move it over to Genesis 9.
Have you tried using this?

Possibly, certainly won't complain if they do. Trust you have the companion morph set that compliments FT. {post above slipped in ... that's the one!}
Keep in mind the concept of "you get what you pay for" when it comes to morphing faces to look recognizably like people. The super realistic face morphs are not done by any plugin for D/S. People get all wired up and "scanned" in a room. One can buy some real people head scans and use some of them in programs such as FaceGen which can then make morphs of them for D/S. However the "skin detail" is not going to travel well there either. The skin detailing is done in 3D modellers such as Zbrush WITH additional plugins. It's quite the industry for sure.
As the name indicates, this is only for G8. G9 has a lot more vertices and faces which will make their algorithm quite different. Also as I mentioned, there are a lot to be improved just with face transfer for G8 alone!
One more vote for Gen 9 Face Trasfer
Face transfer for Gen 9 please... Just bought it and can't use it...
Yes, face transfer for 9 would be great
So far I've been doing it on Genesis 8 and then using a Transfer Utility method to get it to Genesis 9.
I too am waiting for Face Transfer for G9. It's the key thing holding me back from switching over. I use it for all of my characters.
I did use FaceGen in my initial months with Daz. Having used both, I find that I personally prefer FT. That said, also a vote for updating FaceGen so those who prefer that tool can also make use of G9.
Has Face Transfer ever received any updates after its initial release? I don't think it has. It never even got a Genesis 8.1 update as far as I am aware. So since it has never got any updates, I don't think that bodes well for its future.
I am not sure what the issue is, maybe it didn't sell enough, or whatever. Though there has to be some attention, we have 3 different face generators in this store. But right now is a great time for a fun little app like this. Imagine adding an AI generator into the mix. The AI generators can better 'guess' what an object in a photo looks like from different angles, creating new images to build a 3D replica. We already have numerous scanning apps out there which allow you to take a few pics of an object and generate a 3D object. Why can't Daz Studio do this with people?
I rather think a decent face generator would be a great fit for Daz Studio. If anyone is worried that such a thing would replace PA made characters, I doubt that. Good PA characters are always going to be better than what a photo face generator can do, no matter much AI they stick into it. That is not a problem. No matter who you try to create, you will probably want more body morphs and possibly skins to finish them off. And clothes and hair and poses and all that good stuff. None of that changes.
I would like to think that Daz has a multitude of markets with different wants. For instance, I am here to create 3D characters from scratch that look like specific, existing characters, and I'm willing to forgive a little off the top end in terms of texture quality to get that. I would suppose everyone here on the thread has a somewhat different hope and want, but since we're all here talking about a G9 Face Transfer solution, I would think that at least, when one comes to market, many of us will buy it. OTOH, lots of people want the high-end quality of a good PA made character. Hopefully Daz sees it as good business to take care of them and eventually toss a new toy out there for us, too.
All gone a bit quiet around Face Gen for Gen9, wondered if anyone had hear anything ?
I think it's pretty much a dead issue. I've switched over to FaceGen and then use the transfer utility to get the morph over to G9.
Face Transfer was a bust. Face Gen Artist Pro update for Genesis 9 is in the works that will be an improvement over prior versions because the G9 has more polygons. Apparently the G9 changes have caused to the dev to try and improve the results even more judging on the delay of the update's release.
Call it a stunt, but here's Face Transfer on a stock G9 figure.
This was actually a learning and testing exercise. Nothing here is remotely out-of-the-box usage of FT, and a lot of small steps were involved. In essence, it's FT to G8.1 (which is what I normally use, so I can make use of all of the G8.1 features with my FT characters). From there, I converted the original FT mat files to G9 format, then converted the shape to G9 using info I found on another forum thread here. The shape is half Face Transfer and half the result of another 2D conversion product I've been testing lately - part of this test was to confirm that this hodgepodge of shapes would make the trip, as the example for the process I followed used a commercial Daz figure. Then I loaded a stock G9, to which I applied the shape, the Victoria 9 mats (as a shortcut to get a bunch of skin settings set), then replaced the Victoria 9 base color and translucency color mats with the converted FT mats.
I have normals, etc., for this character but didn't go that far for this exercise, which was specifically about the application to G9.
NOTE: There's some face staining here which I could have prevented by using a version of this source image that had shadows cleaned up a bit. It doesn't affect the "proof of concept" but it bugs me! :)
I'm curious as to what the 2D conversion product you are using.
She used MadSkills.Studio reSKIN g8 to g9
It looks great to me, @paulawp.
Need to find a time to experiment myself.
Has anyone tried Facegen 4 yet ? Ive read it does Gen 9 ?
It works pretty well but you will have to tweak it and add details into the morph, much like FaceTransfer. It relies heavily on the texture map that gets created.
Good to know
