G9.
Am I blind or is there only one face surface - no individual lips anymore?
And the same for the eyes? No sclera, iris etc.?

Unfortunately, alternate eye options and makeup are a separate purchase with Vic 9. Victoria 9 HD Makeup and the eyes in Character Essentials.
So you can no longer customize eyes? One of the things I liked to do was mix n' match irises...like I'd load in Victoria 8.1's eyes...keep the sclera, but swap in irises from someone else (usually Mousso). I'd also often tweak the iris color in the shader channel. So...we can't do this anymore? (Obviously, I know we wouldn't be able to use G8.1 stuff..I'm just talking about customizing in general.) Must-Use-Out-Of-The-Box?
I "think" I saw someone mention that the new eye textures are geografts? But don't quote me on that. LOL
Eyes are their own figure now and all of the surfaces for all of the figures have been simplified. It prevents a lot of ugly things like where edges meet - ex sclera to iris or face to lip. Everything is still customizable, it's just different.
LOL. cross posted with frank :)
Diffuse and Translu textures are now in temp ?
Means they get generated and we can't save custom ones?
And Victoria uses fake reflection maps?
The new eye textures are not geografts.
The eyes and inner mouth are now seperate conformers. This will allow for greater variety down the road as truly custom eyes and inner mouths can be swapped in and out more easily.
The eyes are four mats, left and right eye and left and right eye moisture. You can now easily set the left and right eye to have colors. LIE can be used for further customization.
So why is everybody freaking out about not being able to tweak the eye/lip colors then? I haven't downloaded V9 yet to look, but it sounds like you can still do what you want, it's just a separate object from the V9 body. Or is it something like the iris and sclera are now all one texture, so you can't swap out a different iris and keep the sclera, etc. I'll have to just look for myself, lol.
If you've installed your g9 content, and you look in People\Genesis 9\Materials\Daz Originals\Base Materials\Eyes, how many eye options do you have? Just like there's more free starter skin tones, my understanding is that there should be more free starter eye colors as well? So instead of getting the same 5 eyecolors and patterns every character that you buy, you now have 16 high quality unique ones for free? Seems like a step up to me?
The eyes are using The Layered Image Editor. Because now you get to choose, sclera and iris colors separately.
The temp files are what Daz puts together when it makes its image sandwich for you :)
All the eye presets currently available for G9 are mix-and-match, you just use LIE instead of surfaces for it. It's beautiful.
Yes, got it. Just which they have kept the old concept. Image editor is so slow.
And why an iris normal map on the moisture? Should be empty and / or zero.
Layered Image Editor has been greatly improved in the newest version of Studio. Go into edit: preferences: interface: Layered Texture Compression and slide it all the way to the left.
These will load a whole lot faster with that setting. However, with this comes some caveat. The less time it takes to load, the more heft there is in image weight.
Thanks to let us know.
But, why, oh why did they change the working concept of individual surfaces? It was working "sniff".
Ok, next one. How to change Spec. for lips individually? Seems we now need to custom paint the textures for that. Please tell me I am wrong.
I can only speak for myself, but I appreciate it being this way! Now there will be no more weird wax lips. Or weird irises that look like a sticker. They will blend into the next surface organically the way they should. It's one of the reasons that V9 looks so darn good.
Lips you will be able to adjust with a mask ( please don't go the geometry editor route) that you can place on your spec map with layered image editor. I havent had a chance to see how daz has dealt with that yet. I focused all my time on eyes :)
Edited to add.. Ill look into this real quick and see
Arghh, can't find refraction and IOR in the eyes shader. Seems so, I have to replace the defailt eye shaders with my custom ones and maybe create the surfaces with geometry editor if I want to use G9 "sigh".
Less surfaces is not a huge concern for me. Custom material zones can be created with geometry editor. UV seams around lips and sometimes irises were driving me crazy, though.
Cgi go look at the daz pa commercial products. Ive worked pretty hard on that.
Yes, happy to do so, but not sure what you mean by daz pa commercial products. A link maybe if you don't mind?
@PixelSploiting ok, valid point.

These have refraction and ior.
As for the lips.. you will either need to paint your own, or borrow a mask from your runtime. So as an example, if you own V9 and her makeups, you could use that mask, but you will have to layer it in yourself.
Ah ok. Missed that. Looking good.
Eyemoisture and the lenses have very specific IOR values. To make eyes behave in a photorealistic or even hyperrealistic environment, those are mandatory. The same goes for teeth so it would be a bummer if you wouldn't able to change them accordingly. Right now, I'm looking forward to the mentioned product and I really hope it will work.
Nice idea in theory, but unfortunately Daz insists on dumping the LIE stuff into a temp folder on my C: drive...and I HATES IT! That's why I'm not a fan of LIE...I can't seem to get Daz to not want to drop stuff into my C: drive. Space is at a premium as that's just my small Windows drive.
Hmm I wonder if there is a way to redirect elsewhere... I will ask about this.
Isn't that the Temporary Files folder in Preferences?
Wow! Well there we go :) Can easily be changed so you don't clog the C drive.
You can change that in Preferences...first tab :)
Another one - The skin shader:
I already changed various values but this weird edge shading I have seen in so many renders is still there. I think it was introduced with the new G8.1 pbr skin shader.
Look at the right side of the nose or right of the chin and in general how the face frame renders at the edges. This strange glacing angle darkening just looks wrong to me. It comes from the dual lobe. If disabled it. it is less pronounced.
I think, it should simulate vellum effects or so, but the old v8 skin shaders still look better to me.
Examples
V9 with dual lobe (various shader values already tweak)
V9 no dual lobe but no spec. of course now (various shader values already tweak)
G8 custom shader with V9 textures - head only (V9 eye shaders fixed, but not enough translu., sss on lips - no time to paint at the moment).
Brows: only a quick hack to let them look less like glued on.
Last note: The eye lids are still to thick for my taste. I made a thin eyelid morph for G8.1 - seems so I need to make one for G9 as well.
But in general, so far I like V9 more than her older sisters. Not tested posing etc. yet.
Out of curiosity, @cgidesign, how did you adjust the brows? I really like the look you've achieved.
