You can find an example for everything, sure. But, as a rule of thumb, elbows are around the height of the waistline. Except for Van Helsing, they are not. For the other characters it looks like the legs were shortened and the arms forgotten.
That leads to this, again nsfw pin-up

Yes - except it won't transfer HD morphs - so depending on the character, results may vary.
One thing I've had when I gave G9 a go, is the eyes, on a couple of characters I created I cannot get them to look in the same direction, they just end up with a lazy eye look.
Never something I had an issue with on G8 or when I use G3 with background characters.
I will say for standalone close ups, G9 clearly is a step up, however for the type of scenes I like to do with multiple characters in shot G9 is too hungry and not worth it compared to how easy G8-G3 are to put in several characters
You are right. And the unnaturally drooping shoulders with the periscope necks that Daz has always done have actually got worse with the G9 generation.
I'm still finding it hard to justify switching up to g9. Without being able to easily/cleanly apply g8 clothing/hair assets to g9 is the biggest issue I have. I've bought too much g8 clothing/hair. And while more g9 is coming out, a vast majority of it seems (to me) just to be very similar to something I already have for g8 that it'd be like buying it again. I feel a bit... ripped off.
I'm also with most people saying g9 looks... odd. It just looks stumpier to me. I tried a few g9 characters and messing with sliders, but I can't make any character, especially female, as attractive as easily as with g8. I always feel like I'm fighting g9 to look "sexy". I do a lot of pinup style for book covers and things, so it's important the characters look super-heroic etc. G9 seems more built to make frumpy soccer moms. That doesn't sell. But that's just my worthless internet opinion.
At this point, I'm grateful to all those creators still making g8/8.1 options with their clothing/hair products. Those I'll always buy. About the only thing G9 has done has increased my bank account. I buy a LOT less than I used to. Not because I don't want more products, as I always want more, but I'm having to go to other sites which still focus on g8/8.1. They're not as good, and I'm having to learn the art of texturing, but it works for what I do.
On the plus side, I've downloaded Blender and Zbrush and have been starting the rabbithole of tutorials to try and make my own things now I'm facing not having as many products to buy. One door closes and one opens, I suppose.
Thanks my friend. I already bought and have been using all of them! Very cool! I'm even moving my favorite V4s up the ladder.
I noticed. Nothing to do for it. Still, it's increasing my possibilities, and I'm pleased with the results.
I wondered about that. Lucky you! Without it, the best I could do is https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-8-victoria-4 . Otherwise, I could get get textures to G2 using https://www.daz3d.com/v4-skins-batch-converter-to-genesis-2-female-s or https://www.daz3d.com/v4-skins-auto-converter-for-genesis-2-female-s . Both require https://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-for-genesis-2-female . Then I guess I'd add https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-8-genesis-2-female unless there is another way to convert G2 skins to G3 or G8 - Cludgy by comparison.
Indeed. Have I ever mentioned how much I don't like V9? Seems she has some reach, though. You wouldn't want to box with her.
She looks good eating chicken nuggets though.
Just compare the bending and body details and decide for yourself.
On the left is Victoria 8.1 HD, on the right Victoria 9 HD. Both wear basic panties and bra from the respective starter essentials and the Voss hair for their generation.
The pose is from Z Ultimate Kneeling and Crouching for Genesis 8 and 9 | Daz 3D Full 03 Kneeling Mirror.

Then I did the same picture with Victoria 8.1 dialed out and Victoria 7 for Victoria 8 dialed in.

...well picked up the Essentials Bundle (Body/Head Shapes Expressions and Starter Essentials Expansion) for 7.78$, as I had a couple tokens to use up and a couple Easter eggs which gave an additional discount on Daz Os.
How well does https://www.daz3d.com/natural-movements-pack-for-genesis-9 and/or https://www.daz3d.com/ultimate-natural-bend-morphs-for-genesis-9-female-base fix these posing issues? Neither one is on sale today, though I would think either or both could go a long way to addressing the issues with posing g9
I've noticed that poses made for G8 and converted to G9 look terrible...not sure if the poses in that set were designed separately for each figure.
I haven't had bad experience with bends once I realized that you need to make sure all the pose enhancement toggles are turned on. Elbows was always my pet peeve with G8/8.1...and with G9, I was pleasantly surprised.
I have the ultimate natural bend morphs, will do a comparison picture tomorrow.
Thank you. I'll be interested to see :) edit: typo
I have both and I get way more mileage out of the first one. I would recommend both, but if you can only get one, go with that one. The Ultimate Natural Bend Morphs I've found ends up over-correcting in many cases and you can't just apply the "all" slider and go...you have to be very specific with what corrections you want turned on. Often I find myself using a combination of the two. But the realism Natural Movements Pack brings to hands is a must-have.
So, turning on these enhancements help resolve some of the odd bending issues? That would be good.
Thank you! I That is good to know.
Yes, G9 has base toggles that you need to make sure are turned on. That fixes a lot of the issues. They are not turned on by default and I think that is the source of most of the problems people are having -
Actually, it's the Natural Movements Pack that can over-correct. That's the one you have to apply individually for best results. But I still stand by the realism that it gives to hands.
The reality is...I would definitely try to get both when they go on sale.
Makes sense! That's my plan :)
I will make sure to do that. Thanks again!
...so what about Riversoft Art's Bone Minion for Genesis 9 or Zev0's Pose Converter for G3/8/8.1 to G9?
I was thinking of converting V7 and V8 to G9 to get a better starting figure. Has anyone tried that? I'm still going back to using G8 and G3 (have a bunch of super discounted items in my cart right now,) but thinking it would at least make G9 easier to use instead of having to make the legs longer and body more to my liking each time and struggling with lipstick/lipgloss issues. But then all G9 poses will be wonky. Kind of wish I never invested in G9 at all. With my huge cart today of super cheap G8 & G3 items, I will soon own most of the store for those products lol. And I now have enough characters and utilities for G9 that I can't imagine needing more. But I wish PAs would make all new hair and clothing have G8 versions. Based on the forums, it seems like a lot of people still prefer the older characters.
The only one of those I have is the later...and it's been my experience that poses coverted from G8/8.1 to G9 look weird in the shoulder/neck area. I haven't tried from G3, but I would expect the same result, given how similar G3 is to G8. My only guess is that the different bone structure in the shoulders/neck is the culprit.
In my example, I put G8M (left) next to the base G9 (right). It's an extreme pose example, but it does illustrate the shoulders/neck issue very well.
I'm still riding on the 8-train, but I have to admit, there have been a couple of very good-looking hair products I wish were available for G8 characters also. Mos of the characters and clothes still give me the fibe that I already own it, so not in a rush to change trains. At this point, I think I'll wait for the Daz5 to release to see if anything mind-blowing is coming for G9, and if not, then I think I'll just wait and see what G10 will look like,
