I honestly fail to see any problem with the Big Bad Red Riding Hood outfit.

Yes obviously, but I believe that was the crux of the original argument.

which is to say, as I read it, the op would rather have an outfit that was more useful for general needs and/or more faithful to the original name, such as for telling the tale of red riding hood.

I happen to live in LA too, just not in West Hollywood. There is a lot of trick and treating in my area, kids with their parents, and sexy anything is definitely not the norm. And that outfit would be very easy to put together from stuff already in the store in multitudes. There are capes, shirt skirts, high heeled boots, etc. On the other hand, an outfit  in line with the original fairy tale would have been novel.

Agreed. Seems like a lot of pearl-clutching.
  •  This outfit is called Big Bad Red, not Little Red Riding Hood. It's only vaguely inspired by the tale. Obviously was not made as a kid Halloween outfit, so the outcry is unjustified. I don't like vast majority of anything steampunk (and vehemently so), but I'm not going to start a thread when the next steampunk outfit hits the shelves. I'm ignoring models not aimed at my preferences.

I guess I never look at these things at face value. I look and see boots that can have a camel suede shader on it and worn with a sweater dress or leggings and a turtleneck. I have high suede boots almost just like those or the Diva ones that I wear normally. The skirt CAN be worn by 10 year olds. I had skirts similar to that when 10! Just put a better wool tartan texture on it for winter/fall or a cute pink print for summer and a top that covers the belly, worn with sneakers, sandals, low boots and maybe covered with a denim jacket. So cute for kids! The cloak can be used for Midieval or fantasy renders, the top for pirate or barmaid girls. I don't know how people look at an outfit and think it's the only way it can be used!

Eh. I guess it comes down to not wanting to kitbash or not finding that type of stuff useful for them in otherwise well made outfit or could be just general moral outrage, too - or frustration that G9 came out first largely with more or less niche sexy stuff (from real life perspective, certainly not from 3d art perspective) than contemporary and/orall around clothes. I'd say Diva's Desire, the Barbarian Armor, CB Arc Clothing set, the Big Bad Red and even the Summertide Swimwear outfit all have certain "look at my boobs!" and "I'm a leather goddess!" elements going for them. I personally do like these outfits even though I wouldn't use any of them to illustrate a storybook or for rendition of a product display (unless, you know, the product was for hyuk hyuk stuff) or whatever it is that the OP renders commercially for.

It's a halloween costume for sure and a sexy one, with certainly useful parts for a kitbasher outside just a sexy pinup girl rendition. Especially if you swap out textures but that's still requires a some level of work. Not much use for me either to be honest... unless the cape has hood down morphs.

Big Bad Red is G8+, though. G9 came with Motion and All-In-One universal wardrobe sets - that's a lot of casual options, albeit still short on footwear.

Well then we need more sexy male outfits for gay porn. Don't tell me there is no market.

Already perfectly covered by Dzheng @ Renderosity. All what the average male needs for the next time in the Darkroom of his choice.

And for a kiddy halloween red riding hood just use the hood and the basket and kitbash the rest... no problem.

I'm not negating what you're saying, I'm just curious here, what part of LA? I was in Studio City/NOHO for seven years and I'd had seen something like this costume in the Valley easily. Heck, I'm fairly certain I drove a girl dressed like this doing Lyft one night to a party. That's fascinating you have trick or treating, I only saw kids one year when I lived in NoHo and we didn't get any candy since no one ever came. My girlfriend at the time grew up in LA and she never had trick or treaters either, but this one year we had them and all I had were candy canes from the previous Christmas to give out, which I actually felt bad about when I saw the look on the kids' faces. But that was the one and only year, surprised my girlfriend too.

Burbank. There is a large are where people really go out with the Halloween and Xmas stuff. There are even front yard haunted houses. On Halloween nights kids from NoHo come over to trick and treat. NoHo, on the other hand, is a complete dead zone.

Gotcha, that's really cool. If I ever went to Burbank on Halloween, I'd just drive right to the parking garage behind Islands and go to the AMC. Burbank is actually my favorite place to be in LA, but I mostly just stuck to that one small pocket.

Hehe, the mall is my least favorite area. The nice residental areas are on the otherside of the freeway, between Magnolia and Verdugo. Clark Street is Halloween Central.

  • Oh okay, dang, I wish I'd had known when I was living out there about this, I would have taken a ride one day coming home from work and check out the decorations. I used to work at Deluxe over on Hollywood Way a little north of Victory, so I was close to the area you're talking about.

I don't think there's a lot of room for Hallowe'en candy in Big Bad Red's basket.  It doesn't appear that there is a morph to lower the hood, and that means a different cloak will be required.

I find it somewhat disturbing that the complaint is concerning how sexy RRH is portrayed (not very, IMHO) while no mention is made of Grandma's severed head in the basket.

  • I hate to state the obvious, but they only sell it because it's what their users, in general, want to buy.

The vast majority of Daz users are people who dress female models in skimpy clothes and call it art.

Take note of how many people find it important that models include genetalia.

It's not daz you have an issue with. It's more societal.

Daz is just doing what business does and making money off of societies wants and needs.

Haven't you seen the lingerie nightwear Bride of Frankenstein in the store?

I'm getting that cloak, it is quite good.

What does? The outfit is hardly outrageous, I think it is just being judged mor strictly because of its association with a fairy tale (which is thought of as a children's thing in modern times). In any event, the flag is for filtering content that is already there, not for relaxing standards for new items.

I don't understand how someone could have been shopping at Daz for more than a few minutes and find this outfit outrageous.

It's like how some people complain that an armor is "unsafe" if it has heels or shows too much cleavage, and think it's perfectly fine when the armor completely covers the body except for the head because there's no included/matching helmet.

I think we're misusing "Porn" when we mean "Fetish"

There's also never a scabbard for any swords. SO SICK OF THAT. (edit: and of course, right after I say this, swords with scabbards are in the store)

My favorite though is when someone complains about armor not being historically realistic and then proceeds to have their female character fighting a dragon.   ;)

From my - probably too european - POV it's rather "using porn when meaning nudity". That "fetish" thing comes in play when using a chicken instead of only a feather in the bedroom.

Do you mean because of the clothes or because of the severed head in the basket now?

Hmm, what so weird or disturbing about the severed grandma's head? I mean it's a bit odd choice for a basket decor but eh maybe she is delivering it to a taxidermist. I mean don't you have your dear departed grandma's head preserved on your shelf - or at least her skull? Well, assuming yours has departed already.

Why the assumption that it's a severed head? It's deep grey as clay and could easily be Grandma's bust as sculpted by Big Bad Red; who may be a passionate user of DAZ Studio and ZBrush?
