Turk's Cap Lilies stop PayPal payment

Just an information, in case you get stumped by it too:

I tried to buy a Gift certificate and added this weeks "free with purchase" Turk's Cap Lilies to the cart.

https://www.daz3d.com/turks-cap-lilies

Paypal refused the transaction. I got a swirly (for 2 hours, until I gave up) after the login credentials.

I removed the Lilies from my cart and everything went smoothly.

Only for PC+ members - other lowly creatures wink (like me) - have to buy something to get them free.

I got the idea to remove them after googling paypal daz3d problems - there are some mentions of products' names that are rejected by Paypal ...

    Turks probably

purely guessing could be this reason

     https://www.businessinsider.com/paypal-is-shutting-down-in-turkey-2016-6

I as usual missed them anyway even though I bought something because they hardly advertise the free with purchases to us nonmembers

I'm not sure how that is related to a daz product... unless it was meant as a joke or the op lives in Turkey?

No joke - Paypal objected to "Carpet Shaders - Persian Rugs" and to other product names too ... like I said, if you use Google to search for PayPal Daz3d problems, you will find that is the case from time to time.

    Right. And it's not Daz's fault ...

I did tell them in a Support Ticket about the problem, but in this case renaming the product will not work. It IS a Turk's Cap Lily and that is that.

It happens when PayPal flags certain terms. I think there was a few others like that Egyptian treasure that got flagged.

  • Why is it that I only get issues with PayPal and Daz? With other sites, I never had any issues using PayPal, despite very explicit product names. For Daz, I am down to ONLY using store credit.

Right. I use PayPal on Rendo with no problems. I had to abandon it for DAZ for similar reasons to those above. So I just use my Debit card here.

Isn't it risky to use a debit card for online purchases?

Urgh... I remember that. Paypal had a problem with the word "Cleopatra" (or was it "Cleopatra's Treasure" *rubs chin while thinking*).

It was flagged just in case it was linked to a scam/fraud (or something like that).

It's easier to buy gift cards/store credit (I like to think of it as taking the scenic route to buying what you want from the store - Although, at times, it can be a bit of a p.i.t.a. ).

That's depends on a lot of things, but if you know what everyone should know about security and take your precautions, I'd say it's pretty safe.  I currently have 4 debit cards, my main card has been used for 12 years now, the others for 5+ years, in a lot of places online without any problems.

I mainly use the main card, sometimes one of the others, for everything I buy here at DAZ (so far 2700+ orders) so I consider DAZ very safe, at least if you store the card in your account so you don't have to enter all the card details each time.  You can't check out at DAZ without entering the stored card's CVC number anyway so even if someone should get access to your account they can't use your cards to purchase content unless they have that number.  And if you store the card in your account the card data aren't stored on the DAZ site so no one can steal them by hacking DAZ.

I currently use paypal at Rendo though as they were hacked a couple of times some years ago where some had their cards compromised.  I believe though that they've got their security problems fixed now, but just in case now the paypal option is there.

...I don't store my card number here and insert it every time I make a purchase.  A minor inconvenience to stay more secure.

I stopped using Pay Pal once before a while back after their site was hacked, and again recently when they began dealing with buying and selling crypto.

    Well - I don't have another option.

    I don't have a credit card.

I am German, so Amazon Pay (which is for Amazon.com) doesn't work for me.

I would save money by not buying here and Renderosity ... but ... no fun?

That issue with the Cleopatra/Egyptian Treasure product was so bad all Paypal payments had an issue. At that time I tried to purchase gift card which got stuck in the process because Paypal frooze all purchases with Daz, and I couldn't use Paypal with Daz for three weeks, I think it was right in the middle of March Madness too which was particularly annoyng.

@Kerya : Yes, I'm in the same boat, Paypal is my only option too.  I guess this goes for more Europeans.

It might be but anyone hacking my debit card would be mightily disappointed because my account survives month to month on the bare minimum. I don't have an overdraft facility and my budget is tight so this hobby gets a meagre allocation of funds. I used to use PayPal but after some refusals to allow DAZ purchases and also getting caught in that Platinum Club auto-renewal trap (when I didn't know that cancelling doesn't cancel the PayPal subscription and there's no way to reverse it) - I don't use PayPal for DAZ.

I don't use Gift Cards much either because I'm tempted to spend whatever I have in Store Credit too quickly - just a psychological thing I try to avoid.

  • i still don't understand in this day and age how paypal or mastercard/visa can constantly tell me what i can or can't spend my money on.

    it's insane.

Curious.. when you visit Daz from Germany are prices listed in DM or USD? I ask because what if someone gifts you say $25 with a code in a PM, what do you see over there?

As someone who had to purchase drugs for a controlled substance inventory, I have a keen appreciation for the need to put in "speed bumps" because people will purchase anything from human slaves, weapons, controlled substances, radioactive material, bioweapons, explosives, et cetera.  Paypal sounds like they need a place for human moderation but it is reasonable for a business to decline a business transaction if they find it dangerous, unethical, or a myriad of other reasons.

beside that, we get everything in $ without taxes too, which would be illegal in europe

Right in the middle of replying I received the dreaded Gateway Error. When I came back there was my post - twice. Wish they'd fix that!
