  • The Skyrim method is hardly infallible, and you can already unisntall and reisntall content (if you load a scene or preset that calls on soemthing you own, and DS knows it, it will offer to isntall it for you).

    If you made the morph yourself is it controlling other properties, such as joint centres? If so, did you do ERC Freeze once, then tweak or add links and do it a second time? That would certainly create duplicate formulas (you need to use REC Bake, from the right-click menu on the link in the Property Hierarchy - with the morph turned on - to separate the linked properties, then make your changes, then redo the ERC Freeze).

    I have 11,600 Daz items installed and I do not get that issue of duplicate items unless I do something to cause it.

    One of the big causes is having multiple install locations.

    When Daz Download Manager first installs, it tries to install a few things on the C Drive before you get a chance to tell it to install on a secondary drive.

    You must interrupt this process and make sure the DM installs ALL content (other than the Daz program) on the secondary drive. Before it installs any content, make sure you set up your folder locations first or it will fracture your library.

    My advice is uninstall all your content, delete your my Daz3D Library content folder and reinstall it all again. You may even have to look on your C Drive and remove folders there too. I know it takes a while but if you do it right you will no longer have this problem,

    unless you do something to cause it.

    Always keep your downloaded install files for such an occasion.

    One culprit is Turbo Loader. Turbo Loader works great! But if you do not sync Turbo Loader properly it can create duplicate files (morphs) and corrupt your library with duplicates.

    The only solution I have found for this is to do a clean reinstall of everything.

    It always fixes the problem if you make sure ALL your content (starter and bought) is installed in one place only.

    Duplicate Formulas is not duplicate items - it is either two products using the same property name and linking to one or more other properties which also have the same name in each (e.g. SarahFBM driving SarahHead and SarahBody in a two different characters named Sarah, or JaneBody linking to Spine1 X Centre - and no doubt others - in two characters named Jane) or, as I suspect is the case here, a single character having two sets of links between the same properties (again, JaneBody to Spine1 X Centre if the maker decided that the initial adjustment wasn't quite right and tried refining it without first baking out the original formula).

    Yes, as Richard mentioned, it doesn't matter with duplicate files other than duplicate URIs / formulas.

    As for Turbo Loaders, they don't create either duplicate files or duplicate formulas even if one does something wrong with it. But they may bring wrong results of morph... if one partially deactivates dsf files under a single product 'cause ERC kinks may break.

    Have you used it on a regular basis? I have...

    When you have 11,000 assets it can become quite necessary.

    It is very easy to click the wrong thing and end up wiith the duplicate "file" error when using Turbo Loader.

    Once this error surfaces the only sure way to fix it is to reinstall your content.

    One wrong click with Turbo Loader can duplicate "thousands" of files. Yes, thousands.

    Files, morphs, formulas whatever, you get the same duplicate file error message. 

    I believe most duplicate files/formulas get discovered by Daz rather quickly and patched.

    But duplicate files/formulas created by a fractured library is much more subtle and harder to troubleshoot.

    A fractured library is a less reported culpret.

    I've not seen that "duplicate files/formulas" error so far... maybe you can show me how to reproduce it. I just own Turbo Loader for G3, G8 as well as Booster Utilities, and yea, I used to use them pretty frequently, I have nearly 30+ morph assets.

    But since DS 4.21+ when the asset loading speed had been siginificantly improved, now I rarely use them, probably on quarterly or semiyearly basis lah ~~ but I still keep quite a lot of morphs disabled.

    Duplicate files and formulas can be casued by the same root problem, a fractured library. So advice relating to the former can be helpful in such a case as a fractured library.

    I will reiterate, I have 110,00+ Daz assets and I never get issues with duplicate formulas or files... Oh, but I took care not to let the Install Manager fracture my library.

    It seem Richard that you have made an assumption that it must be duplicarte formulas rather than duplicate assets in different places which can prompt the same error message.

    When a reinstall of content eliminates the error message, I guess there was not really a duplicate formula, right?

    Even though the original poster did not rule out the possible use of Turbo Loader.

    I would start a topic on the subject but it has to be phrased as a question and not a "discussion" like it says in the forum. These are supposed to be "discussions". Richard would complain about that as well.

    This is a discussion on duplicate formulas which one would think also encompases duplicate files which can create the same exact error message.

    A duplicate file that contains a duplicate formula. Yes, there is such a thing...

    Duplicate Formulas Found in "FILES"...

    The problem is not alwsy the duplicate formula... but it is the duplicate file containing the formula.

    Duplicate files do not cause duplicate formulas, as DS only loads the first file it finds, like in a case where products have been installed with both, DIM and Daz Connect (inside DS).

     Why bother to even mention reinstalling if duplicate files are not in play?

    Duplicate file formulas that are not updated due to them being in the wrong location.  i.e. a fractured library.

    In such a case, a duplicate file can prevent an updated file from being used.

    Becasue Daz is seeing the unupdated file first.

    I do use primarily Genesis 8 and 9 figures so this is probably why I do not encounter this problem, and my library is installed properly as well.

    Because the message assumes the the products that were installed, were not badly made.

    Reinstalling helps if the file was fixed, ie. the formula changed so that it doesn't clash with another formula inside another file that belongs to a completely different product, which may for example happen if the products are from the same creator and the creator has cut corners, reusing some of the files (the contents of the files) and forgetting to change all the formulas that need changing.

    If a product has an update, one would think it would get installed routinely as it comes out. 

    And an update will not fix a fractured library because Daz may continue to see the unupdated "duplicate" file over the updated one.

    It all depends on which version of the file Daz favors.

    Does Daz pick the first file it encounters or the file with the latest install date?

    Regardless, a duplicate file could be in play.

    In such a case, a proper and clean install of content is the best fix.

    DS goes through the content libraries in the order that is specified in "Content Directory Manager" and loads the first file it finds.

    The error message specifies duplicate formulas, so I don't think it is much of an assumption. It is also rather diverting this thread from its proper purpose, trying to help the user solve their problem (or get it solved if it is down to add-ons from a store or freebie maker).

    It depends, if the duplicate formula is left from a fractured install of an old unupdated file, it was a duplicate file containing a formula that did not get updated.

    Daz chose to load the unupdated formula instead of the duplicate updated formula.

    So yes, it indeed was a duplicate formula on a fractured install that was deleted and replaced by a clean install that contained only the updated formula.

    Updates only update one instance of an asset. Depending on the DM settings, updates may even create a new instance of the asset.

    Perhaps Daz may prefer the duplicate file with the latest install date but of that I am not certain.

    A proper clean install rectifies the duplication with possibly newer files.

    I just wanted to point out that it can be a library conflict.

    The Daz library has many opportunities to fracture itself.

In the log.txt you need to find the line Duplicate formula found. After this line comes the name of the first of the conflicting files (tag Previous:). And after the Duplicate: tag there is the path to the second file. After the input: and output: tags, you will see identifiers that have the same names in both files. This is the problem. Because, as noted earlier in this thread, identifiers must have unique names. You can change the identifier in one of the files and the message about duplicate formulas will disappear. Will the morph work? Of course, it would be better if the author corrected the file. However, he could be helped if you provide him with the information obtained from the log file.

    Thanks ! I know well about duplicate formulas... I just asked that question out of curiosity as RexRed mentioned he had experienced that issue with Turbo Loader.

    As for G1, I never use it ... so I only have its Starter Essentials. After I loaded it for checking, I found no duplicate formulas issue. I'm not sure if you meant an issue came from the essential product or any other G1 chars...

    Yes, Daz fixed a bug in the Genesis morph base files a long time ago. And it is no longer possible to reproduce this problem on new Genesis 1 samples. Since omen.kris created his own morph with a duplicate formula, he could share with us a fragment of his log file starting with the line Duplicate formulas found.     I edited the log a little. I placed the part we needed between the rows of exclamation marks. The same formulas are highlighted in red, and the names of the files containing these formulas are in blue. Comments in black bold font were also added by me, do not expect them in the real log.

    Hey folks, I'm hoping maybe someone can help me troubleshoot this same issue...maybe same issue?  See below for the log entries, but the weird, frustrating thing is that they all seem to be the same file, and when I go to the file locations, I can indeed see that they are the same file....?  How can it be a conflict when there appears to be no difference?  Thank you!  I'm a newbie when it comes to trying to troubleshoot Daz3d files.

    Yea, duplicate formula issue can either come from duplicate morph IDs (aka URLs) in different DSF files or come from very same duplicate or multiple formulas within one single DSF file.

    You can simply open that DSF file with Notepad++ to check if it's the latter case.

    Fabulous.  I uncompressed the file, loaded it in NPP, and spotted the duplicates easily.  Deleted, and I'm good to go.  Thank you!
