Hi,
Recently on Reddit Nvidia's sub, I've seen reports (14 reports and 3 unconfirmed) about the 16 pin Adapter comes with the 4090s being melted. This could potentially be a fire hazard.
Therefore I'm posting this as a warning for anyone that's using the RTX 4090. Please read into it and maybe take some precautions for your safety.
Thank you.
Best regards,
Minh

2000 € card, but the adapters are melting - good job Nvidia

It is more of who made the adapter, seems that while there are some having this issue many others are not. But after reading the article, there are many reasons from crappy production to what it looks like they were cramming too many wires to each connector pin. Thinking behind this is you look at the previous two generations of connectors, it looks like each pin only has one wire to it.
Received this email today:
Due to recent external reports of electrical and fire safety issues with the 12VHPWR cable adapter shipping with most RTX 4090 GPUs, REDACTED has made the decision to replace these power adapters in applicable systems prior to ship out. Until further investigation can be made into the root cause and solution, REDACTED will no longer utilize these adapters.
We will only allow 4090 cards to be configured with power supplies that have 12VHPWR cables that connect directly into the PSU without the need for an adapter. Your order may be delayed as we await incoming supply of these new power supplies and/or cables.
We will be contacting you to change your power supply to one that does not utilize the adapter cable.
While the number of reported issues we are aware of is small in comparison to the number of cards purchased, we are making this decision in an abundance of caution for our customers. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.
Company redacted. They also detail what they're doing if you already have a system shipped.
