hello, anyone know a tutorial or good way or tool to convert g9 stuffs to g8? without the "autofollow?, i want to use the g9 eyebrows which are pretty good in g8 but using the follow tool will make it bad it would be something like this:

a way where it would not break morphs or geometry, even if is needed to genereate a new skeleton.

I made a Genesis 9 clone for Genesis 8.1 male (directions in the freebie section - REALLY easy) and the G9 eyebrows fit fine. FWIW, I would love to know how to convert without autofollow too, but I'm not sure it's possible - not only are the two figures not even the same size, they don't even have the same bone names. If it's possible, I'll be glad to hear it. It was so easy between G3 and G8 because they both had virtually the same geometry, only different poses.

hmm interesting i was trying to convert it to obj and apply g9 bones strutcture however due to g9 different size from g8 the brows aways ending near the mouth, even when i tried to use daz "default g8 clone for g9 but it fails epic in the bones making only the mesh have the right size while bones still lower making it aways export bugged for me.

i really loved on how easy is to convert stuffs between g3, g8 and g8.1 totally free and very easy, however the new g9 looks a lot trick to do it and since i don't want to use g9, i really disliked its "doll like body" without nipples and navel(belly buttom) on the default mesh it become useless for me when comes to make game, then i gonna stick a lot with g8, i really hated what they did in g9 in many stuffs which put me down on it, the only thing i can really prise it they did was the add of many geometric meshes eyebrows with "low poly" whch are pretty good for character customization in game then i want a way to convert then to g8.

I'm hoping for some G9->G8 and G9->G3 converters to appear soon. Well, I'm still waiting for something to convert G8.1 stuff to G8 and G3 more conveniently. It's too tedious for me to bother, which is why G8.1 specific assets are already lower on my wishlist. G8.1 and G8 outfits and props should technically be the same, but if saved on G8.1, it needs manual conversion to fit to G8.

Making backwards compatibility automatical, to the point that we don't even need to worry about what some asset was made for in the first place, and don't need to hide assets for other figures, is second on my wishlist for things DS5 should fix over DS4, right after removing the limit on Smart Content. And that's just the fixes I want for DS5, new features and functionality are a different thing.

well the process i posted in my first post is very effective to convert any stuff between  g3, g8 and g8.1 is even more "effective" than the "convert tools" which we have, it's much more accurace, it's just need some extra manual work to do in each piece of outfit you want to convert.

Making the G9 clone for G8.1M took me about 20 minutes or less and worked flawlessly thanks to the tutorial in the freebies section ;)

creating a clone also allows you to fit g9 eyeballs to g8. it's probably not worth it since it looks close to vicky 8.1 eyes. but it's useful for me since i need eyes to be rendered as separate geometry otherwise i get clipping artifacts in blender renders.

the only problem is the fitted eyes get deformed because of weirdness around the clone's eyes. doesn't matter what method you used to make the clone.

I had to correct that by loading the eyes on a g9 shaped to g8 clone, exporting that geometry, and loading that into the eyes fitted to g8 (reverse deformation turned on).

after you fit the eyes you have to manually scale them since scaling information doesnt get transferred. so i made a scale in place morph for them. you have to scale for every character with different eyeball size. ERC freeze with your character to save it. you might also need to change the iris size which is included with the eyes.

i uploaded the fix for g8 and the scale in place morph. they are called "to g8m", "to g8f", and "scale in place" . you will find them in the eyes parameters tab.

  • Catherine's method works. here's 2 more methods to make clones that are pretty simple

-fit g8 to g9, export the g8 and reimport as a modifier/clone morph. fitting might take awhile unless you're on barebones daz

-another method involves using the transfer tool to transfer the genesis 8 clone morph on the g9 TO g8, setting that to -100% on the G8, exporting that and reimporting as a modifier/clone.

also, load dev mode only since the regular g9 offsets eye rotation by a little bit
