I know that the stand based hair system can be used to also get grass like effects but I'm not sure how.
Would someome be so kind as to please share some material settings for it?

grass is green if that helps.
The cryptically-named Foreground Blends used dForce hair as grass.
I used SBH as Hair, Beard, Fur and Grass in this (heavy) Scene:
I am a devotee of SBH but dont think it is the right tool for grass.
imo it is better to just Scatter(as instances) a bunch of different grass-clump assets over a surface.
I do agree, my exemple Scene above was RAM (>60 GB) and VRAM (>18 Gb) hungry while rendering! I have 96Gb RAM and a RTX 3090 24Gb VRAM, quite a nice gear.
There's some free grass on polyhaven if you dont have any https://polyhaven.com/models/nature/grass
These grasses are made by the same guy that does that popular environment creation tutorial for Blender. They are decent... there are probably better ones. Might even be some on the Daz store, i dunno.
I guess you would need Ultrascatter to effectively scatter in Daz Studio, otherwise can do manual instances by hand (which I have actually done in past, not with an entire field of grass tho)
Not sure how you would use it in Studio as the model files are .blend. So would have to export from Blender first I think.
Both of those models are also available as FBX.
Ahh k thank you for the info, now to find them as the two in the above link are all there was.
Okay, I'm explicity asking for daz hair asking because I need a ghilli cloak
Thinking just throwing fur on a dforce cloak'll do nicely.
You can use SBH editor to make the roots thick and the tips thin and also edit to give slight pseudo-random arcs to the blades but I can't recall a control to make the SBH shafts flatter off the top of my head. Some natural grass, eg sheep fescue, has thin roundish grass blade shafts.
Sure SBH hair will do it nicely, but you'll need to tweak the SBH parameters and experiment. I hope the screenshots I provided above will help you. Be prepared to struggle if you're short of memory (both RAM and VRAM).
Good luck!
64 gib and a 3090. I'm good.
Thanks.
What you need is Chia Hair... A revolutionary new system for three dimensional electro-polygonal persons with thinning or non-existent hair.

You probably don't need it... nobody does, it's actually pretty bad and old... and it causes Sri Lankan Musk Ape disorder, which while mostly non-fatal is quite difficult to mask the odor of.
um they were explicitly asking in the OP about the shader settings, not how to use SBH Editor.
I think i would just use Daz Uber Iray shader and make Base Color green-yellow (you can add a texture here with some variation/color noise to vary the color of each strand), add some Trans Weight and make Trans Color green (can also plug in the color noise texture here). Glossy Roughness would be relatively high.
You can change the parameters of the download by clicking the various buttons that are adjacent to the download button.
Can also just convert from .blend to .obj in blender. I always convert from fbx to obj anyway before importing any fbx to Daz since Daz fbx importer is so bad and prone to failure.
