Please help. Render won’t start, or stop on its own.

Hello everyone,

hopefully I’m at the right place to ask for help. If not, please let me know.

First of all, english is not my first language, and I apologies in advance for any mistakes I might do with my writing.

I hope someone will be able to let me know what I’m doing wrong, and maybe give me some advice?

 

My problem:

For a few weeks everything went well and I didn’t have any problems with rendering.

But now, any time I start a render it’ll stop after a few seconds, no matter how small the scene is.

For example, one character with spotlights, no background etc.

Usually, I render with only my GPU on (with exception of bigger scenes) because with CPU turned on my render-time will go well beyond two hours. Even with smaller scenes. If I allow a CPU Fallback it'll render, but take hours, too. 

I checked troubleshooting in DAZ and it says…ran out of memory…but can that be?

Is the RAM/System/Memory not good enough to render?

I get this error every time with the simplest scene...Even with scenes/characters that I could render on my older laptop.

 

As for the system info etc…

I checked for updates, and I checked if the GPU etc. works when playing a game. Everything works well, but not with DAZ.

First image is an example, the same would happen with a Gesesis 8, or anything else.

    You are running out of VRAM, which is the memory on your GPU.
    Even when it has 8GB's of VRAM, only about half is available for geometry and textures while rendering Iray, the rest is taken by Windows, DS, the scene and the needed Working Space.

    You need to reduce the size of textures and use lower SubD 

  • Thank you so much for the quick reply. I guess I can only render G8 models on subD 1, and no G9 models (I had them on the lowest SubD), or turn on the cpu and render for hours. Which is a bit sad ngl.

    Attached is a test I made some time ago with my previous 8GB RTX 2070 to see how much RAM and VRAM was used while rendering in IRAY (Note. Windows 10 takes 800MB's more VRAM)

    Case a) just one lightweight G8 figure with lightweight clothing and hair
    Case b) four similar G8 characters with architecture
    Case c and d) started increasing SubD on the characters to see at which point the rendering would drop to CPU

    "RAM/GB" and "VRAM/MB" taken from GPU-Z, "DS Log/GiB" taken from DS Log, no other programs were running but DS and GPU-Z
    The "DS Log/GiB" is the sum of Geometry usage, Texture usage and Working Space - After Geometry and Textures, there should still be at least a Gigabyte of VRAM available for the Working space => In my case, Geometry + Textures should not exceed 4.7GiB

    Note; Case c) was already using 38GB's of RAM, even though the rendering was done on the GPU, Case d) when rendering on CPU the RAM usage went almost over my 64GB's

    Tests made using RTX 2070 Super (8GB), i7-5820K, 64GB's of RAM on W7 Ultimate and DS 4.15

    Haven't installed the newer versions of DS as I value the information in the log more than the newer versions have to offer, but you should be able to render two/three G8/G8.1 figures just fine if you don't use hair or clothing that take too much VRAM.
