Auto-Fit again

Greetings everyone

I need to bring up the Auto-Fit popup again. I already tried "Fit to" and select "none", then "Fit to" the figure again, but it just attaches without the popup. I guess there is some cache involved. How can I clear that cache / reset the prop?

Note: I also tried the Transfer Utility but the results are far from Auto-Fit, so that's not an option.

  • You'd have to go back to the original outfit, AutoFitting covnerts the loaded item to the new figure and it stays covnerted even if you unfit it.

Thank you for the quick reply, but unfortunately that's not an option for me.

Is there maybe a way to use the Transfer Utility to exactly reproduce the Auto-Fit behaviour? My prop is a rigged G8F hair and I want it to fit on a G9F character. Auto-Fit does a perfect job while the Transfer Utility places the hair about 10cm floating over the scalp.

Transfer rigging requires that the item fits prior to doing transfer rigging (or fits to a base character if it is a morphed character).

Autofit can take a model from other generations and fit based on the clones selected in the autofit menu.

  • What is it that you need to do?

  • I try to work around a save/load bug. It can easily be reproduced:

Open a new Genesis 9. Apply a G8 strand-based hair (comes with a scalp node and a hair node attached to that). The Auto-Fit popup appears. After fitting everything is perfect. Save the scene and load it again. The hair is now either deformed or simply floating over the head (the scalp node still matches perfectly). This is what I try to fix.

Have you tried saving the hair as a new G9 asset before saving the scene?

  • No, can you please explain how to do that?

After you have autofitted the hair, then File > Save As > Support Asset > Figure/Prop Asset and save it under a new name, to avoid overwriting the original.

Nope, that doesn't help. This only exports the scalp, not the hair node. But even when I save the hair node and load it again, it floats. Looks like the bug is somewhere in save/load, no matter if it's the whole scene or only a prop. Did you try my steps to reproduce?

  • I don't know if there is a workaround for this, which can in fact be triggerd by any action that regenerates the hair geometry - saving and reloading is just one such trigger. AutoFit is targeting the current hair geometry, but that is not a fixed asset like clothing it is build afresh on each load (or other actions) and so the AutoFit adjustments are lost.

That said, if you use Edit>Figure>Scene Identification to tell DS that the hair, or whatever, is for Gensis 8 then AutoFit will fire up when you fit it to 9 - but this will again not persist.

Thank you for the idea, it's okay if I have to do it after each loading . But what you suggested doesn't work either / the popup does not appear again. I tried setting "/Genesis 8/Female" for each of the three, "Compatibility Base", "Auto-Fit Base" and "Preferred Base" without success. I tried leaving it on the G9, and also fitting it to "none" beforehand. Note that the entries don't even change after the fitting, all stays G8/Female. I even tried setting all three to "None" or G9/Female -- no popup. I tried this on Daz 4.15 as well as 4.21. Maybe there's some setting I'm missing? Can you provide a step-by-step explanation that worked for you?

Thank you, but I don't think this addresses my problem. As said, Auto-Fit does a perfect job. I can simulate and render without problems. Only when saving and loading the scene or prop it comes out wrong (floating). My goal is to continue work after loading, ie. change poses and simulate again if necessary.
