I know Genesis 9 hasn't been out that long yet, but I really gotta ask when are we gonna get some guys? Like the whole point of going back to the unimesh was so that you could have characters of either gender (or inbtween) easily right? So that really makes me question why we haven't at the very least gotten a Michael 9... I mean honestly it would have been smart to realease V9 and M9 at the same time or at least like a week or so apart at most. However to date we have exactly 0 males aside from the base (the addon allowing for a tad more versatility, but not much.)
So my question is... Genesis 9 males... when?

It is disheartening. Seems more and more ppl are asking for gents these days, all the while Daz claims that male stuff don't sell. I would agree to a degree, but I think attitudes are changing. It was one thing when everyone was doing a naked Vicky in a temple with a sword, but people are branching out to more complex images and animations now than they were then.
I'm hoping against hope that the delay in M9's delivery is due to Daz's learning from the V9 debacle that we need the customary amount of clothing/hair DAY ONE for a new Victoria or Michael.
I assume they are preparing a large collection of boxers, underpants and briefs.
I think we are unlikely to see male characters 9well, huamn males characters) until Michael 9 launches - which I would assume is offset from Victoria 9 so they don't compete.
As MimicMolly said, these are available elsewhere, if you don't mind dialing in your own body and using the base skins.
I don't remember the gaps for previous generations, but for Michael 8 he cam almost three months after Victoria 8. No clue if the time will be cut down due to the single base mesh, but it's not unusual for there to be a sizable gap between the two.
Doesn't sell as well as female is what they keep saying, not that they don't sell at all.
I didn't articulate it well, but that's what I meant ;)
Out of curiosity, can you post an example of the look you're trying to get with a male chest? I've been messing with the male shape a lot in ZBrush and could see how possible it is with the mesh we've got.
I wish I was less of a fraidy-cat about trying to make products, because it really feels like the vendors who concentrate on feminine characters are mostly doing it because that's what they prefer making and there are fewer vendors who find masculine stuff compelling enough to put hours and hours of work into it. Artists try to make what they like to make, even when they're doing it for money--it's what keeps it from being a drag.
@plasma_ring This is what would be ideal: The undeveloped chest of a male or female child. It also would work well under clothes.
Did you see Mada's reply about turning on/off the base joint correctives?

She even made a pose preset to turn them off/on:

Oh yeah, I think that shape is totally doable. I actually just posted this in another thread, but I made a smoothing morph that's partially dialed in here. I tend to like the dudes who are a little uh. Top-heavy. But it doesn't look great on every body type. :V
It's not a fantastic example, but that under pec geometry is what creates the definition and it can be smoothed out entirely flat or shaped differently with no problems. I think we probably just haven't seen many examples at all of masculine body sculpts where people are doing something very different with it.
I remember there was some concern on this point regarding the official body morphs since even the lithe and emaciated body types seemed to have pec definition, I think? This might be of interest; it looks like the figure has one of the edge loops creased sharply by default, even on the lithe morph. I can't even see it on the wireframe view in Daz, but it's really obvious in ZBrush, and I can see it in a clay render depending on how the light hits that part of the body. (I'm not sure if this is the culprit because tbh I'm not 100% sure I'm understanding the problem correctly.)
The one caveat when smoothing things out is that the corners that form the pec curves can stand out a bit when you flatten the entire chest, since they don't want to lay at the same depth as the geometry around them. But it's pretty easy to fix by grabbing the point and moving it in slightly. This is the basic lithe shape with the crease smoothed out, with no other morphs:
Okay I have next to no experience sculpting or rendering kids, but this is my attempt with something cool I've just discovered called "actually looking at reference instead of winging it." >.> Is this close to what folks are looking for or is the issue still present here?
I wish this too. You make absolutely gorgeous men, and I would love to be able to buy a few.
I did. It doesn't address the area I find to be a problem.
That does take care of the issue I have seen and can't find a way to dial out - the creases under the breasts.
I found this one on sharecg https://sharecg.com/v/99592/gallery/21/DAZ-Studio/Enrin-for-G9. Having tested it myself with a low end pc I have to say it rendered better then Michael 8 and don't get me started on Torment. That one led my software to not responding way too often. Skin is more realistic then what I've seen for a while now when it comes to male characters. The person who made it along with morph knows what they are doing imho.
@plasma_ring That's it! I wonder why they didn't do this on the Lithe and Emaciated morphs from the beginning? Good work!
Someone else is definitely going to make a better version of this with actual characters or morph packs, but if the crease is bugging you in the meantime here's the morph I used to flatten the chest shape out. I am super terrified of trying to package morphs to share with other people, but if I followed the instructions I found correctly and didn't miss anything in testing it, this should work and be under Chest > Masculine. Please let me know if you try it and it doesn't.
Sweet, and thank you! ᐠ( ᐛ )ᐟ I didn't really notice it before because I haven't messed with those shapes much, but when I was looking at it to smooth it out...yeah the crease really does look odd on those.
Ahh I just saw this, and this is so sweet!! Thank you very much, I'm really happy you enjoy them. ;-;
NIce job!
Thank you very much! <3
I should note that this is with the Lithe morph dialed in, so to use the smoothing morph to get this shape you'll need to have that package. I might try to make some shapes that aren't dependent on other morphs if I didn't break anything with this one. :V My usual workflow is send to ZBrush > send back to Daz > save the scene the morph is in and forget to save it as an asset ever so I'm a little rusty.
Thank you, that was very kind of huge and it makes a big difference. I've attached a pictures with and without your morphs with the shaping settings I used.
I'm so happy it worked out!! :D And I'm glad it ended up not being a mandatory feature of the figure. I know it sucks a lot when there's a small but annoying thing that can't easily be fixed.
Thank you plasma_ring for the morph! I had auto-converted G8 clothes that were mostly a good fit, but even after running a dforce simulation had the crease in the chest. I still have to play around with getting it exactly right (I just put it in at 100% here) but this already looks much better with minimal effort on my part.
My hope is that with Genesis 9, which has native morphs that create realistic body shapes for shorter people, even dwarfs, we'll get some male characters in realistic sizes. 75% of American Males are shorter than 6 foot. 50% are shorter than 5'9". The Genesis 8 men are mostly 6'1" to 6'5" with the occassional 5'11" thrown in. Lee 8 is the shortest I've seen and he is taller than average for an East Asian male. There is a misperceptionn that the average man is much bigger (in multiple dimensions) than reality.
