Are there tutorials on how to edit and fix Duplicate Formula file issues?

I have heard it mentioned that there is a way to edit files so that you don't get duplicate file errors anymore. I have been getting these error messages for a while now on some older characters that will not be getting fixed/updated, so if anyone can point me to a tutorialor provide instructions on how to edit the files myself, that would be very helpful.

Someone did post how to do it in Notepad++; I just haven't run into that problem.
